Ok I know there is info posted but I must be Internet impared because I've looked in the search and got nothing.
Iv'e got a built 302 in a 71 comet-Ive got the clutch pedals from same year mav(not in yet) iv'e got an embarisingly expensive hydrolic clutch kit-(not in yet). I put a 28 imbalance 164 tooth flywheel with a king cobra clutch. It was a c4 with a shift kit and i have two questions.

1- It looks like i need to slot the crossmember for the c4 to fit the t5 and brace over the old slots.Could it be this easy or am I sh!#ing myself. Im wondering about the geometry (up and down ) of the tranny to driveshaft.

2- The spline on the driveshaft looks about 1/2' to 1' too long i have the stang ('84) driveshaft but the yolk is different and i dont know if i should have the original spline machined down, the other spline cut off and put on the old shaft or the stang yolk cut off and replace with the shackle u bolt. I dont want to deal with a new crush sleeve.

Any help ...I'm going to go try to "massage" this thing into place monday.

Oh i don't know if this is cool but I have the old c4 for $200 and a c6 for $300. Phoenix Az.

Ok I'm trying to follow you here,i know it's hard sometimes to put down in writing what you are trying to say but here goes.I used the mustang driveshaft it fit right in.I just took the 4 bolt flange off and bolted it up.You might need a different u joint depending on which size rear end yoke you have.I made my own crossmember but others say all you have to do is extend with a plate the stock crossmember. The best way to tell is to get the trans in place and fit the crossmember and see for your self what modifications have to be done..Also there is a floor brace right above the trans in the tunnel that will have to be removed or the tranny won't sit high enough.

The distance from the output shaft centerline to the crossmember mounting pad on a T5 is the same as other Ford trannys, so if you get it to fit on the crossmember it will be at the correct angle. On mine I cut out the dropped center section of the crossmember, moved it rearward 1 1/2" and welded back together. The T5 has a bulge in the bottom that will hit the front of the crossmember if the engine/trans is in the stock location. Moving the whole center section of the crossmember rearward provided clearance. If you aren't using mechanical clutch linkage that requires the engine to sit in the stock location you can just move the engine front a little, that will take care of the crossmember and driveshaft issues.

    Thanks for your input

Well I got the tranny in.Used a grinder and BFH on the bump in the tunnel and got good clearance. Working on the pedal asembly and hydro clutch. That clutch was $$ but it sure is trick... straight bolt on.I'm not much of a welder so Im looking for an aftermarket crosmember.Id rather just buy it and get her on the road than scratch my head any longer. Im just glad this mount looks like the last fix.

There is no aftermarket cross member that will bolt on. You'll have to modify one no matter what.

you can cut the holes in a c4 trans mount and make it work with the trans bracket.

Ok well i got pretty hopefull about the modern driveline mustang c-member but now im not so sure. I can take it somwhere to get it welded but its hard to describe and i can't see how to move the deck back because of the way it is stamped..... its deck is raised above the flanges.
I though of just welding a plate on the bottom of it and drilling holes. Then cutting clearance at the front.
If anyone has a pic of a fab that would be cool...
I'm fixin to just tie a rope around it.
I think I have overestimated my mechanical abilities.
Well Im back at it sunday so maybe it'l just dawn on me.

    Transmission swap

Well the 5 speed is coming along . Clutch, flywheel, pedals, hydraulic actuator all done.
I found a 65 mustang aod conversion crossmember i think will work. Ill post pics if it goes well.
Cut the hole for the stick but i can barely work it with the split bench. The whole itnterior was redone b4 i bought it but i think I need buckets.
If I cant find comet/mav buckets does anyone have a suggestion for a substitute? I have red vermillion cloth.

You can adapt just about any bucket seats you like. I'm using aftermarket seats that were intended for a Fox-body Mustang.

What shifter are you trying to use? Is it the stock 5.0 mustang one? Did you know you can bolt a HURST handle right on the stock shifter stub? maybee you can get one with the right curve to it like i did so the bench seat will work.
    Derek.

The buckets in our '72 daily driver are out of an '81 Mercury Lynx (just a rebaged Escort). They look like they came factory in the Maverick, if you get them in right. And there is only about a million of those P.O.S. 80's Escorts in the junkyards.

Thanks for the info im going to have to experiment. Iv'e got one of those giganto aftermarket ac setups( with the snowflakes on the knobs) stuffed under the dash so i either hit the bench ot the seat. Im 6'3 so i already have the bench all the way back. Im going to fool with it some more and maybe try a short throw shifter. I appreciate the picks. That blue mav looks like mine but with a VCR size ac in front.
