We swapped from an automatic to a T-5 in our 71 Grabber. It ran great, but then it became very difficult to shift. If we were stopped, it was impossible to put it in any gear, but if we pushed it, we could get it into 2nd. I took the slack out of the cable, and it helped, but then started again. I again tighten the cable, it keeps going back to difficult to shift. Has anyone else had this problem?? Any suggestions? It's a rebuilt T-5
Shut the car off and put it in 1st then crank it and see if the car lunges forward.Be careful of anything in front of the car and have your foot off the brake. If it tries to take off then it's a cable adjustment problem.
How do you know if you have it too tight??? I have tighten it to the point where it is difficult to push the clutch in. I'm concerned of popping the cable. Also, I will try the start in 1st.
how was the flywheel bearing or pilot bearing? if bad, even with the clutch fully disengaged it still keeps the pilot spinning making it hard to put in gear just a thought!
Make sure you push in the clutch when you try this.if it moves while cranking with the clutch in, its not disengageing.Could be stretched cable/bad pilot bushing/faulty pressure plate.Good luck.
Doesn't move when trying to start with clutch in. With clutch out when starting it will lurch forward.
Put it in neutral and try it.It will allways lurch in gear with the clutch engaged.if it moves in neutral.Trans gears are not in neutral(internal trans problem)Still sounds like a cable or adjustment problem though.
With the clutch in and in gear will the car try to pull itself? Also a dumb question but you did put ATF in the trans not gear lube.
Maybe a cable problem. Did you install a firewall adjuster? When routeing your cable, make sure you don't have any sharp bends.
No, the car will not try to pull itself with the clutch in and yes we used transmission fluid. We did not put a firewall adjuster in, but we did make sure there was no sharp bends in the cable.
it could be bending the firewall where the cable goes through or the bracket on the pedal could be bending or the clutch fork could be cracked and bending. is this a new clutch cable? how is the cable attached to the pedal? is the firewall reenforced where the cable goes through it? was the clutch fork new? ive experienced a situation that sounds similar to this where a spring in the clutch disk pops out and wedges in to the clutch so it doesnt release. if you linkage and cable all vissually look good then you need to pull the trans out and check the clutch it self
