I have seen a lot of info on putting in a T5 for an auto. I want to put the T5 in place of my 3 speed floor shift. I have a T5 from a 94 Mustang. Any sugestions?

I'm pretty sure the Mustang houses sell adapters to mate the T-5 with existing pieces. Sorry so vague, but I think I"ve seen the kits before.

Yes you can buy an adapter from any Mustang supply house. With that, it will bolt right in. Then you need to fabricate a rear mount because the T5 rear mount is further back. Lastly you need to have the drive shaft shortened.

T5s are pretty much made of glass. I would try to find a used Tremec if you really want a 5-speed. Unless you never plan on putting slicks on the car or banging the gears really hard.

EDIT: The SN95 T5s also had a longer input shaft and bellhousing which may or may not effect the fit into your Mav. Just something else to look into before you start swapping stuff.

I hear that all the time that T-5's are weak, I have the 85 version (weakest of the weak) in my 70 mustang rated at 265 ft torque I have a 351w that's making dynoed 365 ft Tq at the rear wheels. I haven't broke the T-5 yet......I have destroyed three 8" rears though :D

Thanks for the info. I am going to give the T5 a try. Are there any good online Mustang supply places. What does the adapter do? Bolt holes or shaft length.

CJ Pony Parts is where I got mine. The T5 has about a 9/16" longer input shaft than the toploader type 3 & 4 speeds. The adapter is that thick. It bolts to the bellhousing and the trans bolts to it.

For every story like yours I can find 10 that say they shredded theirs. I destroyed mine 3 times with a basically stock 5.0. I guess driving style has alot to do with it, but if a non-world class T5 outlives the 8" rear in our cars, the rear end is the FIRST thing I'm changing.
