ALL MAVERICKS ARE STRONG NO WEAKNESS 73 is a one year style, with the midsize front bumper... but basicly all mavs/comets are the same anything can be put form one year to another
73 is an awesome year. It is a one year only transition from the small Bumpers in 72 to the giant Bumpers in 74.
if your looking to buy one, pour a gallon of water in the cowl vents and make sure none comes out inside on the floor. if so, pass on it. also check the torque boxes to make sure they're not rusted.
whats a torque box? is there anything else i need to know before i buy one? like tranmission, sparkplugs etc...
Like Don Said, Be Sure To Check For Inside Water Leaks Thru The Cowl Panel. And Other Than Rust, You Can Fix Just About Anything Fairly Easy & Cheap On A Mav Or Comet.
Torque box is where the front of the leaf springs(rear)bolt to the body.If it's rusty then the framerails are probably shot. Also check right behind the front wheels where the unibody meets the floor, same deal as rear.As far as trannies, rears, motors & such-nothing exotic here.Cheap 6 cyls that were basically the same for over 20 yrs,and 302s are also cheap to maintain or repair.Motors, trannies & rears will interchange(mostly)with the following any old '60s Falcons any old '62-71 Fairlanes any old '65-73(small block)Mustangs '75-'80 Granadas Not all the stuff is a direct swap(i.e.-rearends may be differrent widths, but centersection has same guts)but alot can be swapped among them. Also,Fox body(Fairmonts,t-birds,Mustangs)motors will work, but you have to use the old style oilpan & front accessory pullies/brackets.
