yesterday was surreal; after driving the Mav four 3 weeks, I've learned that ppl seem to have a real disregard for older, less than pristine, cars - especially when driving around town. anyways: I was driving to pick up my son after school (he loves the Mav - once or twice a week I pick him up in it as a sort of treat for him). I approaching an intersection and a 90-ish chevy pickup that was heading the opposite direction decided to make the craziest of last-minute left turns, across my lane, into an Allsup's parking lot. I slammed on the brakes, pull the wheel to the left, but still made solid contact with his pass. side door. Long story short, the front pass. side of my car is toast. My hood is toast. The radiator is pushed into the fan. and most of the underbody components are way outta whack. I'm following up on the insurance claim today. I really hope this works out in my favor: I'd rather go on a junkyard shopping spree rather than parting my car out for scrap.
Aw, man. Sorry to hear the news. Glad no one was hurt (otherwise, you'd said something, I suppose). Best o' luck.
Sorry to hear of the accident. Hopefully everyone is alright. People really do disregard our cars, I can't count the number of times someone has pulled out in front of me, or done something crazy that I almost was hit or hit them. I hate driving the Comet during the day for that reason. Good luck with your insurance! Let us know how it all turns out.
Man that sucks. Can you get any pics? I have never had any more trouble with ideots in the Mav then I have had in any other car. Probably less problems with them actually. The park bench bumpers probably have something to do with that.
Really bad to hear that. people always in such a rush they cant take two seconds to look out their mirror. save a second lose a hour/day/car/life! just glad your all ok. there will always be another chance when your healthy!
Sorry to hear about that. I lost a cherry 72 Monte Carlo that way... big block and all. Lady made a sweeping left across 2 lanes into a parking lot. Well she hit me head on long before she completed her turn. I was on the way to ICU at the time, but found out her statement was "I didn't see him". Her insurance wanted to give me $500 for the car. I called my insurance company and found out about a term called 'subrogation'. This is where my insurance compensates me fairly, then sends the bill to her insurance and they have to pay it. I got 6300 for my car in 1997 money, and her insurance had to pay it without arguement. (I had to prove the value with current ads for the same car out of AutoTrader and the like) Good luck! Dave
A few years ago....I lost my '72 Grabber the exact same way, down to the other vehicle being a Chevy truck and it was making a left turn also. I put a lot time and money in that car.........One I was looking in the bone-yard for a part for my '70 Buick,I came across a Comet.....To make a long story short,I bought the Comet's front clip.....both fenders, hood, radiator support, radiator, inner fendersand, bumper for a whopping $35.00....Keep your eyes peeled man....Hotrod-Daddy
the good part of this..... you can find a car that is in a junkyard for cheap.....use the parts from your car that are good... to fix up the "new" one..... and use the money to hop it up pretty good... and i am sure i saw you earlier today holding your neck...and your son....he has been crying at night from the pain in his back and neck... hehehe glad to hear you are all ok....
That sucks but glad you guys are ok. You can always take them to small claims court for what ever the insurance dont pay. Even if they total it, buy it back, fix it up, keep all receipts and records, and sue for the difference.
Find a NADA Brown book Just went though this with my 76 4 door. They were going to do me a favor and let me buy my car back for $35 and $500 for my trouble! I went to see a friend (who happen to be a Lawyer) and he whip out the brown book and wrote a nice letter requesting that they fix my car, 2k estimate for repairs. They didn't like it but once he reviewed with them some of our Louisiana revised Statues' they found it in their hearts to send $3500 (brown book value) plus a grand for my buddy.
Some people think they are the only ones on the road. Hope you get it back together soon and the insurance works out.
