What is it about a Maverick or Comet that makes them so interesting to people? Now that it's Spring I'm getting the Mav on the road a little more and it makes no difference where I'm at people want to look at the car and ask questions. My car is an average car driven by an average person. Maybe thats what it is, I don't know. I know this...I wouldn't trade her for nothing
Springtime drive I took my Maverick out for the first time this year. It started up easy, I dusted it off and went for a nice ride. There were many nice cars out. Here in Michigan, most of us do not use our pride and joy from November 1 to March 1 depending on the condition of the roads (salt) and the weather. Everywhere I went with the car there is positive remarks. There was 3 guys in a new Cobra Convertable next to me at a light. They just couldn't believe my car. I was in the right hand turn lane so I did nothing funny. I sure they will not forget the sight of my Maverick Grabber any time soon! It sure made me feel good! I think most people dont expect to see a nice Maverick. They expect to see a Mustang, Camero, Torino GT, Hemi Cuda, The Maverick now is the (unexpected) whitch makes it more fun! Joe
Even though mine is not on the road, I have young people stop and look at it (at my house) and ask questions. I believe the youngsters are interested in it because it is a small, sporty car that does not resemble an upside down, old timey bathtub. I have one 19 year-old kid, that is hanging around this 45 year-old car guy, that wants to sell his '94 Acura Integra and try to get a Mustang or a Maverick. I love it.
i know. chris and i went to savannah today and took the pic. for russ. i stopped to gas up and a guy came over and wanted know if i was going to a "car show". i told him no but thanks for thinking so. the trip was 5.5 hours and 393 miles. chris let me drive down and he drove back. it was a great sat. drive. this is the pic. i took.
Nice pics guys! Thanks! Being a Maverick owner since 1974 I can say that what you are experiencing has not always been so. I do remember vividly the ridicule and laughing of being a Mav owner. It wasnt a Stang, Camaro, Cuda and was just viewed as a granny car. When I began showing my car in 1976 I did get comment like ' I never seen a Maverick like that before'. And of course on the cruising scene my car was well accepted. This love for the Mav/Comet is not new as they were huge selling cars. But being thought of as cool was really not the majority of the thinking. I have seen a turnaround in thinking in the last 10 years. When I go to cruisenites I end up answering questions by the young and old about my car. Sadly there is never another Mav/Comet at any other cruisenites in this area. My belief is that the Mav/Comet really captured and era of styling that is much more appreciated now. I guess the cars were ahead of their time. I never cared if anyone liked my car or not, it is my car and it is for me. It sure is nice though to get nice comments about it. What I wonder is, these cars are really becoming collectible. Where will prices go in 5 years? Cars, parts are getting harder to find. What really gets me going is the thought of some of the people on here building these really awesome cars that in my opinion compete with the finest built cars out there. It really is nice to see! Dan
I do remember vividly the ridicule and laughing of being a Mav owner. I never cared if anyone liked my car or not, it is my car and it is for me. My sentiments exactly, my oldest daughter's mother laughed when I said I was going to buy mine and then when she seen it she said "WOW! I never knew it was gonna be this nice." My reply was " I remember everyone who laughed and now those people are not allowed in it." I've had many youngsters born in the late eighties ask me what it is and where can they find one. A friend calls mine "Tawny's car" since her daughter likes it so much, the're hoping by dropping big hints I'll sell it to them. Or trade it for the late 80's Camaro they bought for her.(yeah, right!) Since I'm redoing mine it sits behind my house in a very rural area and still, I had to put a not for sale sign on it to get folks to quit stopping and offering to take it off my hands.
Mine was also the subject of ridicule for many years...not because there was anything wrong with it, but because it was a "Maverick". It seems to get a little more respect now than it did back then. The most interesting thing is how so many people don't even know what it is...especially the younger generation. I liked it so I kept it. With many things in life, I've never been one to follow the "crowd". I'm not saying that has anything to do with my car, but it just may. Before the Internet and this site came along, I felt like the Lone Ranger. It's so good to know there are so many other fellow Maverick/Comet appreciators out there...
 I went to 2 car shows today and got ALOT of positive feeback from people about mine ....But when I stopped to get some gas an older lady came up and said,"Oh I love your car... " It looks like the Nash Bridges car!" I replied with a confused "Thanks" Then I looked over at my buddy Olin and said "Well Cheech ...ya ready to go?"
some people around town think my car is m.a.v.s'. my son likes that because when someone tells me they saw my car doing a burnout he blames it on m.a.v....what is a dad to believe... ...frank...
This is true, people are drawn to Mavs when they see them. Thats why we're all here. I've only owned mine for about a month or so, but have wanted one for about 8 years or so. My Mav is nowhere near the shape it's going to be in when I am fininshed, but when I was waxing it in my garage (in an apt complex) all sorts of people I have never seen or met before kept walking up to me asking about the car...saying how much they like it...etc; Hearing things like that when it's in what I would consider to be, not so good shape, makes me want to turn it into the hottest car around town!
I remember those days when all you heard was "its a Maverick". But I remember beating alot of Bowtie cars and then telling them "its just a Maverick" in high school. Now today I can run down the road to the store and have a small crowd gathered, everyone wanting to know what it is.
M.A.V.~ Your Maverick was the deciding factor of a Mustang or a Maverick for me. I fell in love with your car after a friend of mine turned me towards a few Maverick web sites. I was looking for a Mustang as my first project car until I found some photos of your car. After looking for a Maverick for sale, I found one that I decided to buy. It was in primer but, when I opened the door, the jams were the original green which is the same as your Maverick. I knew then I found what I was looking for. The car already has a place to my heart after I bought it on the day my grand father passed away. To add to that, according to my father, I was conceived in a 69.5 Maverick (way to go dad). I also have a photo of me when I was 2 sitting on the fender of a 72 Maverick while my dad was playing with the motor. Looking forward to the day I may have a son in a photo very much like the one I have of my dad and I.
Auburn , Wow! I`m very flattered that my car had that type of influence on you. Thanks alot for the nice words and good luck with your project. I dont know what it is about these cars, but people who love them, really love `em ! I have owned mine for going on 21 years, and alot of people I talk to can`t believe that the same car has held my interest for so long. The car will NEVER be sold ,and will be handed down to my son when I`m gone one day.
i also would like to thank m.a.v. again for getting me started in the world of mavericks. :bananaman :bananaman ...frank...:bananaman :bananaman
