The Snowball Effect on Mavericks The last '73 I purchased, blows out blue smoke on startup and after extended periods of sitting at idle. No problem, right? Change the valve seals. Can you explain to me how replacing the valve seals is costing me $1,000.00? 1. I decide to take the heads off and get them re-worked. $0 spent for thinking. 2. I decide to convert to a four bbl while I'm at it. Bought carb & manifold. $192.00 3. Why spend $170 getting a pair of '73 heads rebuilt. Buy pair of E7TE heads. $40 for heads, $35 for rocker arm studs and guide plates, $40 for push rods, $60 for rocker arms, $170 to have heads rebuilt. Total for updated heads: $345.00 4. Chat with Dave Moore who says, "with the heads and intake off, why not change the cam." Custom grind cam and lifters to use with stock exhaust, stock converter, and stock gears: $175.00 (Thanks Dave) 5. Gotta have dual exhaust. $250 with mufflers. 6. Misc. stuff & band-aids. $38.00 Total is $1,000 to replace valve seals. Sheesh. Anybody else ever experience this problem?
First problem was Dave :evilsmile he will spend your money in a minute But yeah, been there done that. I think that is why the wife does not want me to start on the yellow mav
Yeah, In July of 2001 I bought parts to rebuild my brakes and prepared to take the tranny out to find out why it was slipping so badly. $9K and 3 yrs. + 3 mos. later I finished it! Seth
All too often but it seems that its usually something that the wife starts ..."you know what this room needs".....but if we do that then we really should get this and this would not look right unless we got a couple of those........and so on and so on.....I cant start on the Mav till I put a 2nd bathroom in do you know I've redone the livingroom floors walls ceiling, the staircase, removed a wall done the hallway(same as the LR) the only thing Ive got done for the bath is buy a sink(6monthes ago) and taped out the "floorplan" ,for the wifes approval, but everytime I get close to starting she finds something else
Last fall I wanted to upgrade my radiator with an aluminum one. Wound up swapping engines. Some of the things bought in the process. coated Headers, AFR Alum Heads, March brackets and pulleys, Milodon water pump, milodon oil pan. It starts off innocent enough!
My blue Grabber here was suppose to be just a quickie paint job. That was really funny...and I of all people should have known better. However I did get the entire car done in less than three months. If you haven't seen the restoration pics to see what I've done, click the link below and you'll see what I mean. I met my deadline but it about killed me.
yep its a domino effect! "well since i'm doing this might as well do that." it bad to start off in the first place! my blue car was supposed to be a daily driver
If it had not been for the snowball effect, our Stallion would still be sitting in primer and making weekly runs to Walmart. All we had to do was fix the rust holes in the floor so it would pass inspection and the next thing we knew the interior was out, the quarter was cut off, then the other quarter was cut off and on and on and on. No doubt about it, the snowball effect can very easily turn into an avalanche. You can always tell when the snowball effect has hit you when you end up standing there one day saying to yourself " I was only going to fix one thing. What the hell happened?"
i wish i had 1000 to spend on mine....i knopw exactly what to buy....well maybe not...there is so much to buy.....i will need 1000 then another 1000 and maybe one more 1000 after the third 1000.....
well some of us that cant seem to get a job no matter how hard they try have a 1000 dollar limit to everything at the moment, im hoping thatll get me by on rebuildin the 50 dollar engine im picking up this weekend.
