Opened up the radiator on my 250 this morning and found a milkshake. I'm guessing a head gasket let go?
Not good at all Definitely oil in the water - a head gasket is usual where they need to be separated by a good solid gasket :16suspect
your crank case should look like that also. if the dip stick and the oil fill cap come out normal then look at the transmission cooler.
But keep in mind that the engine oil pressure is much greater than the water system pressure. 40 pounds vs a 7 pound cap - with a bad seal between the 2 fluids, the 40 pounds usually pushes it's way into the 7 pounds - I've seen it in the water and not the oil and it still be a head gasket
The oil dipstick shows no sign of the milkey stuff. The transmission stick is milkey though. Does that rule out the head gasket or should I drain the oil and look for water? Not that it makes any difference against 40# but my radiator cap is a 13#.
This is my guess. I see a slight redness to the milky stuff.. You say you see it on the trans dip stick so that says alot. May need to have the trans flushed and hope it's not too late.. along with replace the radiator and flush the cooling system etc..
replacing the radiator and changing the trans fluid is a much easier, cheaper job than a head gasket.
Ordered a new shiney aluminum radiator today and a transmission pan with a drain plug. Should I take it to a shop to have the fluid exchanged or just change it in my garage? Many thanks to those who have replied.
