three screws away from happyness

I have every possible screw, bolt, pin, ect... attached to the dash. The insterment panel, steering wheel, glove box, cigaritte tray, everything that could possibly be attached.

Except the three little M***** F*****s hideing up toward the window. Now i am not about to take my window out to get to these.

Is there any other way to get them out, cause if not... im just gonna brake the the little B*******s.

I really don't want to break them, but i cant remove the window on my daily driver

It's been a long while since I've pulled a dash, but I'm about 95% sure there's actually like 5 screws up there. If your windshield gasket it still pliable, you can carefully pry it up a bit and sit there with a small open end wrench and get them out, one little nerve grinding twist at a time. I hope you're patient.

If your windshield gasket is dried out and brittle like the ones in all of my cars are, it will just snap off like hard plastic when you try to pull it up.

 

do yourself a favor,order a new windshield gasket,when you get it,wait til the weekend,then do it.for the time it'll take you to get them screws out with the glass in,you could take out the glass do what you have to do and have the glass and new seal back in.

 

what is it your doing,that you have to remove the whole dash?

 

well, a while ago my car was broken into and they attempted to steal my radio, they managed to break my lower dash into 4 differant pieces. Ive been wanting to redue the interior anyway, and well this seems like a good time to remove the whole dash and repaint it.

 

if you dont want to take the glass out,...like jamie said,be patient taking out the screws.unless you just use tape and newspaper and cover everything you dont want paint spray to get on.

 

i would say...if you don't take the glass out, you won't get the screws back in...

If it's just the lower dash, it is a seperate piece from the upper. I would just mask around the upper and paint it as suggested unless you need a new windsheild gasket.

 

Paint it in the car. Its a lot less work. I removed a dash years ago without pulling the windshield. Its not worth the work and the screws wont go back in. I pulled the dash pad so I could see the bottom of the screws then spun them out from the bottom with small vise grips. I was a lot younger and I'm pretty sure I must have been nuts when I think back to jobs like that one. yup:

 

Thanks guys, but after inching each screw one 1/4 of a turn at a time, i managed to get the screws out... ill worry about getting them back in later

 

Wow! You def.have patience! How long did it take,and how many were in there?

 

i found four, evenly spread out, it really didnt take as long as you would think, maybe only 2 hours. now i just need to take it out and keep the insterment panel in.
