Using a Ford RF-E7PE-6059-AA Timing cover and the ARP 154-1504 bolt kit.

The longest bolt, I think it's 5" just doesn't go in all the way... I would use 3 extra washers and it would fit...but seems odd.

For all the other bolts, I used a zip tie to measure hole depth and through the process of elimination, I've got everything fitting with the the correct length aside from the longest.

    Thoughts?

    EDIT read benefits

Some of the bolts also secure alternator or P/S bracket. Along with single washer would be in in ballpark.

Who's to say bosses on that cover are not slightly shallower than orig?

E7 cover would be 1987. Probably for reverse rotation pump?

I went to the local bolt supply store and picked up one slighter shorter, grade 8. Back in business... let's see if we can FINALLY get this engine back in! Oil pan and harmonic balancer are up next!

When I replaced my timing cover/waterpump bolts with ARP, it took a while to figure out which length goes where. I also had a few leftover bolts when I was done...

IMG_5562.jpeg Using a power bond PB1060ST balancer…. Install tool washer was too small to press balancer in. Prob made a mistake here but put the crank bolt it and started seating the balancer that way. Everything lubed up, Key way aligned. Started going in very smoothly. Once it got to the point where it would turn engine when I tightened crank… I got stuck. Got a new install tool from harbor freight. Much much better… huge surface area to press balancer. Now with a 1 1/16th wrench tightening and a 5/8ths holding in position… still not budging. About to put a cheater pipe on the 5/8ths…. But this being my first install, should it take that much force? Only four bolts holding this on engine stand . IMG_5561.jpeg

Looks like it was bottomed out. Torqued it to 120. On to oil pump and pan.

When I have change SBF water pumps, I get a piece of cardboard, draw out the outline of the pump and actually stick the old bolts into the cardboard in the area drawn out. That way I keep the bolt lengths in the right places.

It's easy to take things apart. A little tougher to put them back together. LOL.
