I recently put new tires on my 1970 maverick (200 6cyl with a/c). The man at the tire store told me that my 13" wheels were not the original rims for my car. He told me that I needed to have 14" wheels or it would be unsafe to drive. He said that someone along the way must have put some wheels off of a Pinto on my maverick. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
    Thanks,
    Stuart

I own a 73 maverick with 302, and I was told that my tires should be 14 inch rims with 195 75 r14's. I'm not sure if its the same for your car but maybe this info will help anyway.

1970 Mavericks came standard with 13" tires. 14" was an option.

Pinto wheels won't fit a Maverick....wrong bolt pattern.

you can put almost any size tire and rim on a car without your car becoming unsafe... alot of people on here have 15" rims or larger

as long as all the tires are the same size it shouldn't matter. plus you're not supposed to mix radial and bias tires.:)
