I need some now rear tires, right now i have micky thompson indy profiles on, i believe theyre size is g60 i dont know much else i bought them from mercurycruizers. I need some good radial tires, the biased ply tires are unsafe and too big, when i go over big bumps and turn too fast i can hear it rubbing the wheel well.

A little rubbing never hurt anything.

Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
the tires your have are the same size as 255's so since they are rubbing you probably need to roll your fender lips. if you don't wanna roll the fenders then i suggest you swap down to a 235. fi you roll your fenders should should be fine and safe with 255s if your rear offset is 4 then you should change to a 245.. but is sound like you have a 3-1/2 backspace rather then 4.

I have heard that 255s fit without any modifications???

I am currently running 245/60r15s and they fit with a little space left over. Will I have rubbing issues with 255s? I need to buy new tires soon. For some reason, they wear out WAY too fast. Might have something to do with those two black lines I keep leaving everywhere :D

I am talking rear tires here. Are you having issues with rubbing on the front, or back?

Its an 8" rear. Pull a wheel off and lay a yard stick across the tire. Measure down to the outer edge of the rim and then down to the surface where the lug stud holes are. subtract the 2 and that is your backspacing. That can be real helpful if you know what it is.

Dayum! You bought a set from Mercurycruizers too? Now you have two sets of those tires hugh? Yeah, they're G60-14's on 14x7 inch Cragar 5 spokes.
I'm surprised you're getting rubbing, although those wheels do have 4" backspacing. You can install some say 3/16 wheel spacers and solve the rubbing if it's hitting the inner vertical part of the well.

My indy G-60/15`s rub on the inside too with my 8.5 centerlines so i put 1/4 spacers on it but I`m gonna go with 235`s cause I hate the flat spots the tires get when the car sits.

I am running 255xr60/15 and my car is pretty low. I have no rubbing issues. Its just a matter of getting them in the middle of the wheel well.

I have 295/50/15's on mine(not lowered) on a 8"rim w/4.5"backspace. No rubbing even with all my tools, slicks & 2 passengers! My quarter lips have been rolled though and I took out one leaf and added a thicker one. What I was aiming for was to have the distance between the fender top and the tire to be the same on front and back...seems to work. PS: this pic was taken at Coops(mercurycruisers) place this Sept.

Hey Mav, what rear tire pressure are you running? Do you lower the pressure just for track time, or keep it low all the time. They seem nice and squishy in the back.

Or is it just an optical Delusion?
