to guard or not to guard?

?

What should I do with the bumper guards on my '72?

  1. Leave the guards, they look good!

If you don't want them you could always send them to me:D, i like them. The first comet I ever saw had them (72 gt).

I like both...if the bumper already has them leave them on.

At least they're still SMALL bumper guards...

Daily driver?... leave them on... they do offer SOME protection against damage... mine got hit so hard the whole lower valence and corner light was bent, but the bumper was still straight and the chrome undamaged.... just have a gouge in the plastic/rubber pad.

And really... they aren't that BAD LOOKING methinks.... kind of adds a little jazz to an otherwise mundane bumper.

I have two 72 projects... one is a driver, the other is a hot rod project, when I "switch" them and start working on the other car, I will put the bumpers with guards on the car that gets driven daily.

Besides... you got holes in the bumpers and likely grooves and damage where the guards used to be.

I think the small bumpers look better without and the park bench bumpers look good with them. Either way it's your car do what you want.:drive:

I would have to say leave them off. If it were a standard Maverick, I might leave them on but I just don't like the look of them with the dual scoop grabber hood. They detract from the sporty look of it.

That's my 2 cents worth, but my opinion doesn't count... It's your car and your decision to make!

I am in the same boat on my 72. I dont mind them but the rubber on the front guards on mine is a$$ it looks like someone made the rubber white with krylon and they are cracking pretty bad. From what yours look like they seem to be in better condition than mine so I would probably be leaning more to keeping them.

Leave them off ... it makes the paint look so much shinier and you don't notice the rust at all. :biglaugh:

I voted to remove them because I think it looks better without them.

I bought a nice small front bumper from a member here (thanks Dennis) and it comes with the holes for the guards. I'm just going to add a couple more chrome bumper bolts to the holes and be done with it.
