torque boxes

    anyone what gage of steel i should use to rebuild my torque boxes? is 20 ok?

    18 would prolly be of but 16 or 14 would be better

    22 should be good for the floor unles you just happen to have some 20 gauge that will be harder to bend though

    20 guage is the proper size for floors. is what they gave me when i went and asked for "body steel" plus i dont own any breaks or anything and i use a ballpien and a 4 pound sledge to form my floors. i think they turned out pretty good. as far as the torque boxes go i would say 16 or 18 would work fine. i didnt put them back in mine but ran a frame tube over to the rockers which also acted as a mounting point for my rollcage, but all depeneds on if yout putting in a roll cage or not

    hehe getting about that time to start putting metal back on the car!!!!! I've been cutting it off for so long....this will be a nice change of pace. :)

    glad to know im not the only one that has gone thru such drastic measures....unfortunatly i had to replaces the subframe rails also.

    You have any before and after pictures of your frame rail repairs?

    here is a pic of the floorpans that i put it with my ball pein hammer and small sledge lol if you look real cloase you will see what look like stick drawn tree branches in the new steel. once i had welded it all in place i took the mig and ran beads in different directions across the panels to keep them from getting the "oil Can" effect. welding across them like that shrinks the steel and in turn tightens up the new patch panel
