I know i know..i've only owned the maverick about a month or 2, but...

It may end up being used as a downpayment for a new vehicle, either the older style, or newer style F250/350 with a Powestroke.

I'm looking for one with a 5speed/6speed manual, and supercab/crewcab, and 4wd. I may be going to look at one in the next couple days which is exactly what i want, so...the maverick may come into play depending on how the financing goes.

I'd hate to see it go..but it does need some work, and although i'd love to make it a nice sleeper, a tow-rig/DD that gets great gas mileage and has power out the rear...and would smoke the maverick, well...it's hard to pass up!

What do you guys think should be "Fair" on trade-in on the maverick? We bought it for 500..but it was a cherry deal...any ideas?

You won't get the true value out of it in a trade in. You'd be better selling it yourself and using the money you get in a down payment.

Thats true. The only one thats makes money on a trade in is the dealer. Why give them all your profit.

i would suggest...make the best deal you can but tell them "no trade". then ask what you could get for the mav. on a trade....my guess is "nothing". :yup:
as suggested..sell and put the money on the down payment...J.M.O.frank...:bouncy:

A dealer will never look at the real sale potential of a car like your's. They'll look at it as an old car that's not even in their Kelly book. You'd be lucky to get enough of an allowance to cover the sales tax. If you have to sell it, better to sell it outright before you buy the new vehicle.

i'd say the same thing, but if it's paid for and you like it, keep it. not costing you anything to sit there and you can work on it as you please. i bought a new f-250 diesel crew cab and i kept my old dually 1-ton to beat up aroud town. :)

I agree, for what they will give you, you are better off keeping it for yourself, or selling it out right. Back in 87' I traded mine, and I now wish I would have just parked it, because it wouldn't have cost me anything.

find out what they will give you for it on trade, then if its low, like we know it will be, then offer it on the board and give someone a chance to buy it, you will be getting the same as a trade but will allow one of us the oportunity to keep this car from going to a wholsaler who will most likly sell it to a scrap yard and ultimately crushed, you get your money either way. with all the deals on new cars and trucks these days, you might not need a down payment, use the rebates as a down payment. just my opinion.

I agree, don't do it. It's just mercy cash, and maybe you'll get $500 tops, IF they even take it. It'll go straight to the crusher. They could, but I even doubt they would wholesale something that old. You're writing it's will and sending it to death by doing this. You could sell the thing private party for more cash than you're gonna make off it by trading it in.

Thanks!!! I kinda left because of my lack of time for my project, but that's all changing now! I'm almost finished with my stang project, so my mav is next.

Trading a Mav off to adealsership, woudl be a good chance for it to go to auction, not gbet sold then get scrapped, Sell it on ebay, get Retail for it instead of next to nothign on wholesale, Trading any vehicle to a dealer is bad news, let alone a classic, especially one like the MNaverick that is on the verge of "breaking out on value" 5 years from now you'd be saying Why ddi I ever, My Wifes Grandpa Traded in a '56 Crown Vic with the Glass roof, for a '64 Fairlaine at that time the 56 was just an older car, what's a 56 Crown Vic worth now?

One more note, on a new Ford truck, you could easily deal them down further on price for what they show on paper for value of the Mav, with out any trade at all.

Don't forget to remind them REbates , special value pacakages etc are From Ford, NOT from the Dealership what are THey gonna do for you, remind them about stocking fee reimbursement) ( money they get from Back from Ford for Selling it off the lot)
