i just came across this motor,and wondering if anyone could help to identify it.the only #'s i found are :eoae d3c ob5.these were located on the block,back by the starter.i'm pretty sure that it's an 80's block but not 100 o/o sure.i did notice that there is no threaded hole for the z-bar stud.has a great operating c-4 behind it.my question is would this tranny bolt up and work behind my 73 motor,or would i need adapters,or the like?i've heard that they won't work because in the 80's they went to metric or something like that.after going for a ride in russ's car at daves cookout,and seeing how easy it was to just start it,drop it in gear,and go,i think i'm going to go that route.so,if this combo will work,i'll be selling my 3spd.with new clutch kit,and the z-bar,and all the needed rods.sooo look for an ad in the for sale section.thanks for any and all responses. chuck.
the c-4 will go to any 302 and will fit in the mav but try and make sure it has a small bellhousing gives you a little room to work
If you're going to use both the motor and tranny, you may just be able to drop it in. From what I've found though, many of the 80's C4 bellhousings were much larger than the 70's ones, so clearance could be an issue, also it moves the tranny farther back and driveshaft length and crossmember alignment might be an issue. Easiest bet would be a small bellhousing and converter and an aftermarket 50 oz 28 tooth flexplate, then you have lots of room for headers if you put them on.
Small bell takes a 157 tooth flexplate and the larger one is 164 tooth, converter bolt pattern must match also. Just use your 73 converter and 28oz flexplate "Do not use a 50oz on your 73" crankshaft. Never paid much attn. to any depth differance on the large bells, all bolted up to existing crossmembers with no problems.
