When i bought this maverick I noticed the exhaust extremely close to the ground. With straight 6 springs and a 2 leaf leaf pack, the exhaust is literally within 6 inches from the ground. all the time. Before my big ass gets in. So I got under the car and seen the crossmember is of course built for a 6 cylinder car so only one hump for exhaust pipe.

I've seen double hump crossmembers before, but are they a straight swap between all years of mavericks? maybe just a somewhat quick swap so I can try and get the exhaust packed up closer to the body?

Yes, it is a direct swap. Bolts up the same for all years.

I also have a 70 Maverick and they all came with 6 cylinders so you will find that single exhaust cross member in all of them. I bought a double hump cross member but it doesn't fit without some work to it as the 70 tunnel is narrower than the later ones. I gave up and wound up making my own cross member. :)

Mine is actually a 69.5 so maybe that is an issue where it doesn't fit if it is a bolt on for a later 70

Well actually, now that you say that, I've seen some other posts here and there that talk about the trans tunnels be different sizes, but I just don't know which are what size. Hell I may look into building one as well if it's too much of an issue.

And also does your custom member go over or under the exhaust?

I've put a double hump in a '70 before without issues, but it was a later car that had an 8" rear. Could be the 69.5 is different since you had a problem making one fit.

my thinking was all 69.5-70s were the same car. the T-5 and Aod crossmembers I sell are 69.5-70 and 71-up...

I took my double hump cross member off of a Comet and the bolt holes did not line up correctly with what was there or seat up against the upper framework right - maybe I should have gotten it off of a Maverick :rofl2:

Does anybody know if there's a difference between a comet and a maverick crossmember? I wouldn't think it's be different, but then again I have no idea.
