I picked up a '76 Mav and was told it had a c4. Upon inspection, the number stamped along the side begins c6############. Is this actually a c6? How can I identify this trans? Or have I already? Thanks guys.
If the bell housing is removeable, it's a C4. If the trans and bell housing are made together as one piece then it's a C6. My bet is on C4.
any part number starting with a c is from 1960's. the 6 is the year. if it said d6, it would be a 76. e6 would be an 86 and so on.
A fast way to ID the trans is by pan shape. _____ |..... | | .....| |____| Square, like that, is usually a C4/C5 ______ |...... | | ...._| |___| Shaped, generally like that, it's a C6 (The top of each 'image' represents the front of the car.
