    Hey guys/Gals,
Well i am still new to this forum but my 1973 Maverick 302 was running rough??? so i investigated?

Come to find out...1 plug wire was totally off (passenger rear cylinder) 2 spark plugs where loose????

So i got new spark plugs and i had a hell of a time removing the ones that needed fixing....

Is there a trick to changing these plugs....:hmmm:

    i am a chevy guy so i am a big baby:hide: lol

didnt know if there was a special tool or socket or path of entry???:16suspect

The trick is, use make sure your carb is in tune, use platinum plugs and an MSD box, so hopefully you won't have to change the plugs again for a long time!

Seriously, it sucks! But maybe I'm just a Chevy guy too...

I found that a spark plug socket and a 3/4" wrench on the socket does the trick very nicely. also a piece of vacuum line about 1 1/2" long on the end of the spark plug helps a lot getting them started back in.

I have headers and it takes about 15 minutes to change plugs.

Yeppy. And I've usually had better luck changing them with headers than the stock manifolds. Especially if they still got those factory motor pull plates(or whatever they're called)

Use a socket that has the hex end on it so you can loosen the plugs with an open end wrench. I use Hooker 6901 headers. You need to loose the motor mounts and jack up at least the drivers side of the engine. Also helps to have the car as high as you can get it since they have to go in from underneath. If you have power steering you need a drop bracket and if it is column shift you may have to change to a floor shift. :)

I always stand on the opposite side of the car and reach my hand over and around then use my middle and index finger to get them finger tight or loose. then i use a knuckle and extension to get them snug.... keep in mind my arms are too long for my body:yup:

if you use autolites and have your mixture right, you shouldnt need to change the plugs very often. if you use champions it will be weekly:yup:
