Well, the deal is I put a running 5.0 and using a harness out of a running mustang. In the mav. I'm stump on what to check next. I've got power to the tfi plug and power to the coil. But no spark. I swapped out distributer, tfi module, coil, cap but its just the same. Double checked the grounds. On the wiring diagrams the red/blue wire from the tfi coil runs to (starting and charging system) I just ran it to the S on the solenoid. I'm this close I I but I'm getting agravated with it and am ready to just carb it. Throw out some suggestions, maybe I've overlooked something. I also bypassed the clutch safety switch but only the same thing. No fire
Sounds like you're on the right track, but be absolutely sure your grounds are 110% good and clean. One bad ground=one heck of a bad day (or week..month, etc) trying to diagnose the problem. Tried pulling codes yet? Might give you a clue as to where the problem lies. Many times, pulling codes won't tell much....but it'll give you an idea. If you can't get the EEC to throw any codes, that's a good clue that the EEC has taken a dump. You should get at the very least code 11 (all clear). Even though the system is not on the Mustang, it should still give you some codes...the EEC doesn't care what kind of car it's on. Dont lose hope just yet. These EFI systems are pretty easy to work with, and once you get it up and running, you'll absolutely love it! No pumping the gas in the morning, no flooded hot starts, no overflowing carbs, stuck floats, junk in the jets, etc.
You need to learn how the system works in order to troubleshoot it. How does the spark originate? The PIP signal in the dist. is passed to the EEC that adds fuel for injection, starts the fuel pump running and corrects timing, then sends it back to the TFI to pulse the coil in the proper cylinder order. You need to see if the signal is getting to the EEC first. The Spout plug in or out is not involved in the inital signal but only the corrected timing signal. The engine should start and run without the Spout plug in. The TFI has two control inputs. One for starting , one for running. Are they ok? I would advise you to get a copy of the Ford fuel injection book and learn about all this because you will be living with it if you don't go back to carburation.
Misery loves company. I'm having my EFI Maverick towed to a buddy's garage to look at it to see if he can find out why the engine starts then stops. I agree with Bluegrass, but in my case, these 'experts' that have looked at my car are all scratching their heads (after changing out every possible component - AND adjusting the valves, AND doing a compression check, AND this AND that..... I still believe it's in the ignition switch, but I've been assured it isn't.
Ok, the starting and running signal. I've got both running to the original solenoid, start wire runs to the S where it has voltage when in start only and the run to the I when it has voltage when in run position.I'm headed home to check if the eec is getting the signal and hook up a CEL
