whats the general opinion about turning the exhaust down under the car just below the rear axle. I know some have done it with there cars but didn't know if there was to much exhaust fumes that get into the car, with the exhaust being underneath.
My car has turn downs with slightly less angle than yours.Been that way for 4 years now and do not smell any exhaust inside the car.I actually read somewhere that if you turn the dumps toward each other that the spinning of the driveshaft will cancell out some of the resonation.Might have been in Carcraft or one of the rags.
Nice picture you got there! Mine is set up just like that, see? I mean EXACTLY like that! Yes, it is loud, and resonates. But that is what I wanted. Never had much of a dust problem, and never smell exhaust unless I am inside the garage.
Mines similar to that, but instead of turndowns, mine has straight angle cuts that extend about 6-8" out of the mufflers. No smell, no dust, just LOUD, Got a wicked resonation when you're on a concrete railed bridge.
Turn downs here too - pretty much like the pics above - yes, very loud - not helped at all by the hole in my passenger side rear floor board
I Have the same setup. Its actually for sale right now. It was loud, but i loved it. Never had fumes inside. But there were some outside. But hey thats why i love old cars
Funny thing,i find alot of mufflers are louder with tailpipes. They gain a crackle to them when the tailpipes are added.
my car was just as loud with and with out tail pipes. it has long tube headers, an x pipe, 50 series flowmasters, 2.5" pipeing. usually tail pipes will get quieter but there is lots of things going on in the exhast system.
From what I have seen it's probobly more of a rubberie smell I too HAD turn downs. The exhaust fumes were bad but I am thinking it was because of bad carb adjustment. The sound inside became too much as it was a daily driver. You can still get a sweet sound going out the back.
My tail pipes come down about thee inches behind my nice big bumpers and no headers and the kids at Jiffy lube praise the sound.
