had a problem with old gas in my camper and had to get underneath it to see what the problem was . it has duel tanks with 40 gal. per tank so it is hard to keep them low when not driving it. my problem is i found it has an electric pump on the frame by the tanks and still has the manual pump on the motor ( 440 dodge ). is this a problem ? i have always pulled and plated the manual pump in the past. to stay on topic i am thinking about putting an electric pump on my maverick and was wondering if i should pull the manual pump in case the diaphram should bust ? thanks in advance!!!
bad dad 457 thats what i thought also. am also worried that since the elec. pump is first wouldnt it flood the oil pan with gas if the manual pump diaphram burst or is this impossible? not sure about the internals on manual pump. if that is not a problem i will not fool with it.
Yea, it would flood it, it'll flood the carb too if the pressure's too high. Best to run a regulator between the electric pump and carb.
I run three electric pumps on my Muskrat. Two at the tank with filters between the tank and pumps and the third is up front and feeds the carb. The only danger is that if you are running a mechanical pump and the mechanical pump's diaphram ruptures then you will fill the oil pan with gasoline. My pumps are all electrick and serve to assure fuel under the worst possible circumstances.
Paul, do you have a pic. of this ...setup... i was trying to find a mounting location on my mav. for 1 pump and don't have a lot of places...much less 3. thanks...:Handshake
thanks for all the help. looks like i will be pulling manual pumps off and putting regs. on the electric pumps. paul s are you running through a switching valve or running to a T?
I don't have any pics and I am in no condition to get them now but here is how they run: from the tank to a "Y" tube, to two canister filters, to two pumps, to a "Y" tube, into the fuel line, (all 5/16") up to the front driver's side corner of the radiator support, to a pump, to a filter, to a single stage regulator to the carb. They are all connected to a relay operating at the same time. The relay is connected via an oil pressure switch. My pumps are about 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" (very small). They flow 60 GPH each at 6psi. More than enough for the 350 HP 351W that I am running. It aint a Holley blue but it all works real well - never had any issues with delivery.
