First question: are the upper and lower ball joints the same? Trust me ide look myself but im an hour away from my car for the rest of the week so i cant.
Second question: what fluid viscosity would be the best for a 8 inch detroit locker with 3.80 gears?

Ball joints are not the same. I believe it's 90 weight I'm running. Just standard differential oil.

You're lower joint is going to come as a control arm assy

Wait and see if the upper control arm shafts need replacing too. if they are bad then you will want to order the complete upper arm and it comes with the ball joint too.

If it really is a Detroit Locker, they have no clutch plates so no friction additives are needed. Plain old 80-90w lube is all it ever needs.

I would run any gear lube that includes 140 in the formula, you're going to need the extra viscocity with the higher ratio. I concur with the others about ordering new upper arms, the price difference isn't all that great and it's so much easier to just replace the whole arm instead of fighting with the old, weaker arms to change the ball joints and bushings.
