Has anyone every installed these before? I bought a set from Mustangs Unlimited for my Maverick and tried to install them last night. I ran into two problems:

    1. One bushing will not insert all of the way into the perch. The other bushing is fine and both fit snug. Part of the perch, possible some type of insert, is preventing one side from going in. (See photos)

    2. I put a ton of lube on the pivot shaft so it wouldn't squeek. The shaft does not seem very tight and spins in the bushing. The shafts did have some surface rust and wear but cleaned up ok. There isn't any play but I thought it would be tighter. Mustangs Unlimited said it should be tighter, too.

Does anyone have experience with this or had similar issues? Please help!!!!!

They squeak no matter what you do. You should have bought new ones, those look pretty rusty.

I probably should have bought new, but was trying to save a few bucks. I like the article Gene posted but don't think it will work with maverick spring perches.

Why do you think that? They fit just like the Maverick perch. The Falcon has the same diameter coil springs

I thought the Falcon had a retainer clip that held the shaft in and the Maverick didn't. How would you keep bearings stay centered without the clips? When I put the urethane bushings in, they allowed the saddle to slide back and forth on the shaft. Thay can't be good.

Could just I press a bronze/copper sleeve onto the shaft?

You got to use the 60-63 Falcon/Comet spring perch. The later perch's have a bigger sleeve to hold the rubber. When Ford first engineered this type of suspension they made the perch like it was on the blueprint. A few years later some bean counter found a cheap way of using rubber injected into the sleeve instead of brass. Like all companies...saving money was on top of the list and the original design was changed. Copper is cheaper and softer than brass and would not hold up to the load.
