I found a V8 73-74 4 door maverick in a salvage yard. I was wanting to get the belly bar, trans crossmember and motor mounts out. Motor is still in car. Can you get the parts out from underneath without taking motor out?

Also is rear valance from same for skinny bumper and the mid size 73-74 bumper?

Basically a complete car, what else worth getting from a 73-74 4 door.

Grill gone, headlight bezels rough...what else?

    Thanks Brian

The fact that it has a rear valence would make it a 73 (assuming that the rear bumper juts out). 74 and later would not have any valances (big bumpers). That 73 rear bumper is the same as 70-72, just on longer bumper mounts.

If it is pre-74, that would eliminate disc brakes as something to grab.

The question at hand .... can you remove the frame mounts and trans crossmember with motor and trans in the car? .... You will have to pick them up with a hoist. It is doable. Of course, be careful and think through every step. You don't want 700 lbs falling on you. Be sure the car is really secure in how it is propped up, too.

Grab the belly bar first. Be sure to get the fasteners, they are special to fit the bar.

Loosen all the trans and frame mount bolts, but keep them all in place.

Get the hoist and pick the motor up a little to take weight off of everything.

Grab the trans crossmember first. If you need to, you ought to be able to push up on the tailshaft and get the mount disconnected and pull the crossmember out. If that is a struggle, jam a stack of tires under the pan, which is a good start anyway for the next step....

Get all the fasteners off the frame mounts. You will need to drive the bolts all the way through. You may need to move the motor up or down a bit if they are binding. Once that is done, you might need to pick the motor up a couple inches to get the mounts out.

Gently lower the motor back into the car. It will wedge in there. If you wanted the exhaust manifolds .... too late ...

I have gotten the frame mounts out first, but then had to wrap the hoist around the bellhousing to get the trans crossmember. Much easier to get that first.

    Be safe!
