Well sad day for me. Pregnant daughter was driving 1973 Grabber today a truck ran a red light T-Boned the car have not seen it yet, police told wife car is totaled. Just wanting to know how will they determine the value? I know I will not get what I got in it. Had newly rebuilt 302, new rebuilt transmission, four barrell edel, alumin intake, edel, dual two chamber flowmax, hooker headers, and yes the Grabber Hood from a 72. Oh yeah daughter and unborn boy is fine in hospital.
Did you have it appraised? Or an argeed value policy? Other than that, you may be out of luck, maybe you can buy it back cheap, and save what you can...
Im glad they are alright. I know on my maverick they said its only valued at 1500-2000 to them and that all they would pay. I only have regular insurance on it the but maybe if you did have it apraised or have antique insurance on it you may get more.
I told the insurance company they had to appraise the car to get a value - that I would not accept the value that they placed on it. They got it appraised and then they paid for the repairs. It was appraised over $5300 - 73, C4, 302, LDO package with just over 100000 miles on it.
Glad to hear your Daughter and grandson are wellyahoo::bananaman If you have reciepts you can use it for leverage!!! you can walk away better than you might think. I got $3100 for my 81 mustang back in 1996 after I showed receipts for the recent work I had done. They offered me #1200.00 prior.....I also started complaining my back was starting to get sore(trust me it makes them want to settle fast:evilsmile....) but in your case you might want to let it ride to make sure both your daughter and grandson are ok in the long run. Check with a lawyer about time limits on claims in your state!!! Better safe than sorry. I hurt my back for real in that accident....had preblems ever since and then had a bad atv wreck and game over for me
I work with a lady who had her little Chevy Blazer totaled she said she hired a guy her husband knew who did estimates for another insurance company for $100.00 because she had just had a new auto-trans put in and a few other things plus she had the receipts. They settled with a little more money towards their loss.
Keep the car and get a smaller check from the ins co, then either fix it or part it out, sounds like it has enough parts to maybe make a few extra on it.
First, glad Daughter and grandson ok. Second, police can't total a car, only Insurance or DMV can say one is totaled. Do you have any fairly recent pics of the car before the wreck? Pics are a much better indicator than just book value because they will show any mods done to the car. Third, the pickup ran the light, THEIR insurance will be the one to pay out, unless they were uninsured, then your insurance pays and goes after them [uninsured motorist coverage]. Lastly, as stated before, any receipts of parts bought and work done will help increase the value of your claim. Insurance is designed to put you back where you were before the wreck, so they have to make you happy, even if you have to get a lawyer to fight your case for you.
Update Tried to post pictures of car could not do it. Well they finally came up with a parts estimate $5500.00 parts. Then another $1900.00 for front end work. So now they are researching the going value of my car. I know I am going to take a huge hit. The car was going to be trailered up to Portland in September for the final body stage of my brother in law painting it orange with black racing stripes.
This situation is always sad. I am glad your daughter and her child are okay. You have to realize that there are 2 types of insurance: stated value and agreed value. Agreed value is the type you want. Stated value is used to set your premiums but not necessarily the value you get in case of a write off. In the case of a write off the insurance company will give you what they consider to be the actual cash value. This is the value that the car would reasonably be worth on the open market. Hopefully, you have the ability to document the value you have built into the car.
Final Well State Farm is giving me a check for 5500.00 for my car, I am ok with that amount it is much more fair than I thought it would be. The California deemed the vehicle as a total loss because of the damage so the car has to be parted out in a salvage yard. I could have kept it for parts but that would have cost me 600.00. I just wanted it out of my sight really sad thing to see. I did take the Carb and intake off. So RIP another Maverick. Hopefully some of her parts will live on.
very sorry to here this , but atleast the two people you care for the most are ok. I would fight for what the car is worth and make a stand for what you have , because they will try to pay as little as possible for you car. if you have pictures get it appraised by an apprasser.
