I said this in another thread but I want to say it here: I think that everyone here should write to A.C.C. and complain about the poor fit of their Maverick carpets. Perhaps if they got enough complaints, they may retool and produce a better fitting product. I'll bet the carpets they sell for other cars (like Mustangs, Chevelles, Camaros, etc.) don't fit so poorly. There are a LOT of people here who are in the process of restoring a Maverick or Comet, and many of them are going to need new carpet at some point...
Ordered mine 2 days ago from AK. we'll see. Maybe Mavaholic will come down to show me how to install it.
Mine fit OK but not great. I thought most carpet was a big deal to make fit properly, I just never made a big deal out of it since my car is nowhere near a show car.
Maybe someone on the board or in the club with top notch English skills could type up a common letter that we could all email individually to ACC and Autokrafters ... perhaps if they got several hundred emails they may consider redoing the mold and making it a two peice ...
That's odd. When we pulled the old carpeting out of our 77' and 76' Mavericks, they came out as one piece carpets. For as worn out as they were they had to be the original carpets. Could Ford have switched to one piece carpets for the last few years the Maverick was in production? Both of our carpets came from ACC by way of AutoKrafters, and they fit very well. They were cut a little on the large side, so they did need trimming, but all in all we had no problems with them. One trick we used was to take the carpets and lay them out in the sun for a few hours so they would flatten out some and become more pliable. We also layed the new carpets on top of the old carpets and trimed the new ones slightly larger than the old ones before installing them in the car. After they were fitted, we finished triming them and cutting the holes for the seat brackets, seatbelts and highbeam button. It takes a little while, but they both ended up fitting good.
My 71 had and my 74 has 2-piece carpets ... Perhaps they switched at the end and that is what everyone is reproducing. I am also thinking that perhaps the mold they are using has the catalytic convertor hump which would cause fitment issues in 70-74 cars ...
My early cars have two piece but the later cars have one piece. I think they must have changed to a one piece in 75 or 76. Has anyone replaced carpet in a car with a converter? How did it fit?
Guess what ... I just emailed one of the sellers on eBay selling Maverick carpet. He said they have two-peice Maverick carpets available ... They said they are molded from original floor pans. I have asked what year pans they are using ...
Both AutoKrafters and ACC have recieved complaints from me already. I'm looking into having a custom fitted carpet for my 73 since no one produces a premold that is correct and fits.
