i have a cragar 15x6 rim not sure how old it is but pretty old i would say anyways there is a small crack by where one of the spokes connects to the lip of the rim? not sure what to call it. the crack is like maybe an inch long but im wondering how i should go about welding it cause i know its cast aluminum so what should i do guys?
I would replace the wheel. Welding will destroy the chrome plating. By the time you pay to have it welded and re-plated you can likely buy a new wheel.
well its basically on the spoke and the spoke is painted so it can easily just be sanded and repainted which i was gonna do anyways
and i have a friend that welds just doesnt specialize in this so he wanted me to do research on it so i can tell him and he doesnt end up making it worse lol
I have been welding for 35 years. If you have a crack you can see you have dozens of tiny ones that you cannot see. Magnafluxing will show them if you are curious. Even if you fixed it - my bet is more cracks will show up soon. Best case is you will just keep fixing the cracks. Worse case is your wheel will come apart at full speed. Just not worth it - my advise is to replace the wheel and closely inspect the other wheels.
wow lol well theyre old rims and the dude that had them before me painted it like this diareah orange gold urine color. so im painting them this color
