Seems that I am always hearing about someone went somewhere and was talking to somebody and that person had a maverick in their backyard that they didn't want and sold it to them for $50 or a nice riding mower that belonged to a passed away uncle that they don't need and let it go for pennies on the dollar or some such good deal.

Well I ran into one of my first good deals like that Saturday evening. My Grandmother's A/C was busted and I tried calling the guy that normally works on mine, called the company he works for and called him directly and no luck, had to leave a message and he wasn't calling back. Finally he did call back and he told me that he was working for a different company ans they were booked to the max and they probably couldn't get to it for a few days. Luckily I was 99% sure I knew what was wrong with it, which was either the starter capacitor for the fan motor or the motor it's self or both. So my Second option he said that if I could take the motor and squirrel cage out of the air handler and bring it to him he would test and fix it at his house for me. I figured I could handle that so I did and short story long, I took it to him and he fixed it at his house and while we were working on it he asked If I needed a MIG welder. I asked how much and he gave me the story on how he came to have it and said $50.

I told him I would think about it and let him know, well we finished putting in the new blower motor and starter capacitor and I asked what I owed and he gave me a price that would have been less than probably what the motor would have cost else where and told me to take the MIG welder with me.

So I got my Grandmother's A/C fixed for less that what the parts should have cost through someone else and I got a MIG welder to boot.

It already has a full spool of wire in it, I just need to check and make sure it is flux core wire because it doesn't have a gas bottle hooked to it.

I'll probably pick up a gas bottle just to have it around but from what I understand using the flux core wire works just as well if not better in most cases of light to mild steel.

Awesome! I have experiences like that all the time.

Only in my case, the cops would show up a couple hours later, telling me that the $20s I paid him with were counterfeit, the mig welder was stolen, as well as the parts used to fix the A/C.
