I'm having problems with my idle whenever it's wet outside. It idles great in dry weather but as soon as it's wet outside, it's like the idle speed is cut in half, until the choke opens up and then the car runs fine. Often the car will stall in traffic. Today it happened and I had to put the accelerator all the way to the floor before I could get it started again. Any ideas??
mine does exactly the same thing! when it is wet even if you put it in nuetrul and increase the rpm it will try to die, will usally run ok for @20 seconds then it acts like it's running out of gas, when it is dry its perfect
About 10 years ago an old girlfriend's car did the same thing...it took awhile, but I ended up tracing the problem down to the ignition coil. Once I replaced that the car ran fine in wet weather...
could be mad mark, I am running a stock coil about 3 years old with pertronix ignition(which I recommend highly). When it's rainning like it is today the kid will be leaving work about 5 min. early just to beat the traffic out of the parking lot!
same thing here...all new plug wires fixed things right up! make sure you pull the uhhhh collars(?) back, insert the wires nice n snug then slide collars over the plugs and cap...and coil. six cyl distributors sit way too low and sometimes get splashed going through puddles.
I'm going to try replacing the coil and I'll get back to ya. I replaced the distributor cap just recently and my plug wires should be good shape so I'll start with that nasty old lookin coil.
