First off i would like to point out it was about 90 degrees out today. At 12 pm i was suppost to meet a guy to sell a gun and then head to college, so i headed to bowling green where i was suppost to meet him, then i found out he had headed for morgantown thinking that we were going to meet there, so as he was heading BACK to bowling green when i corrected him, and it was real hot outside. The only place with AC near me was walmart, so i headed over to walmart. I got out of my car and saw that my back tire was flat for the 4th time (dang valve stems) Pumped it up with fix a flat and was getting ready to head to a gas station to pump the tire up when suddenly, the car wouldnt start Smoke started poring from under the dash. Figured it was my voltage regulator since my volt meter was reading 16 at idle and 14 when driving. So my car wouldnt start, its 90 degrees out, my tire is semi flat and walmart doesnt carry squat So the gun guy comes and he said he would give me a ride to advance auto after buying the gun, great, things are looking ok. (i did offer him his money back) Got the regulator, headed back, threw it on, and nothing (kind of figured it couldnt be that easy). Pulled the dash and turned the key to find a wire glowing red with no coating around it. The good news is that walmart carrys wire and wire nuts, the bad news is that the bad wire is inside the harness Got it done around 3 pm and headed home after filling up my tire, crap i forgot to get gas. Went to get gas at Bp but the station was packed and i really didnt want to turn my car off because it may not start up again. So i headed 5 miles out of my way and filled up at a cheveron. When filling up, i noticed that my valve stem was squirting out flix a flat. Hopefully i could get home, luckly i did but when i got out of the car, my valve stem was gone Tire was not damaged and neather was the rim. So much for the motor swap!!! And so much for going to college at 12:30 BTW i still have an electrical problem WOOOOOOOOOO! what a day!
some times it just keeps comming with no sign of stopping. but it's good you got the car home i've had to leave mine on the side of the road more than once.
Don't feel bad. Monday, I was headed for a show at Summit Racing, and never made it. The car overheated, and by all indications, a bad tstat. Went to AZ and got a stat and gasket, put it on, and had the same problem. That was when I noticed the fan was not turning. Temp way above the sensor threshold. So, I called Hagerty, and they sent out a tow truck. Today, I worked on it most of the morning, and finally figured I'd get out the prints for the new harness I had installed. Told me what I needed. Turned out it was a fuse. Now I have the illuminated fuses in the panel, and the car is fine. Not as bad a day as you had, but not good nonetheless.
Sorry you had such a bad day, you know if you own a Maverick you can expect them occasionally, my last one was a week ago headed to work in the Grabber half way there stopped at a store for a cold drink, came out and my radiator was Pi**ing all over the place! right out the front lol. had to go back home and drive the Tahoe.
driving on a flat tire damages it from the inside out. youll never be able to tell if the tire is damaged till you take it off the rim and inspect the inner sidewall.
also a wire that burns off its insulation like that is a sign of a componet drawing too much power for that wire or a shorted wire. you probly have more problems than just a bad wire.
Hey, i wasnt going to use it I guess its a blessing in a way. Called up the guy whos selling me the cam to see if he shipped it yet and CLAMED the check cleared today after a week of having it. Said he would ship the cam tomorrow so it should be here around thursday next week. Also, my welder guy is going to be doing the shock tower shave hopefully next week when originally, he couldnt do it this week.
Ill take it as it comes, if i have to, ill buy a new/used harness. This car is rigged to die from the prevoius owner, trying to figure it out as i go As for the tire, i took it to sears and they didnt mention anything about the tire being damaged so i may have avoided the damage.
If you are having so much problem with the valve stems, have you checked out the hole? It sounds like the hole is oversized. You may need to go to a bolt in style valve stem to solve the problem.
When has Justin ever NOT shown you respect??? I have tried reading through alot of your posts...and gave up searching after noticing the exact opposite coming from your direction! I usually don't get involved in the quarreling of others, but your discontent with this AWESOME message board (or life in general) has become so prominent and humorous!! I begin to wonder if this is all a practical joke?? Justin, sorry to hear about your day! But look at it this way...at least you had a bad day in style (in a maverick)! At least it didnt happen to you in a C$#^rolet!! Any day mavericking...good or bad...is a great day!!!
I agree with 1970, even if it was a bad one, at least you weren't driving a Government Motors product! Just had a crappy day not too long ago as well.. My headlights began flickering so I went to the junkyard to get some "new" HB2s.. Same problem.. On for a while then I hear my light switch clicking on and off with the lights.. So out comes the switch and in goes a new one today!
