I had planned to get my engine swap done this winter and painting done this spring but with the economy the way it is, I'm gonna wait and see before I spend any more on my Maverick. I think I will do the motor swap because it shouldn't cost that much. My 72 parts car has everything I need except for an electronic ignition dist. and box for a V-8. So, what are your plans for 2009 and have you changed any because of the economy??? Scott
Engine swap, new bumpers for the Comet. New engine for the Grabber. Work some on the Sprint. And anything else I can fit in.
drag race drag race drag race. hook up the nitrous system. i am also entertaining doing body work and trying to paint it with the help of a friend.
If everything goes well, I'll have my Shelby hood on within the next couple weeks. Working on it this weekend.
Drive the Pea,and maybe do the small bumper conversion/disc brakes on it.Comet's in the dry, maybe gather some stuff to swap it over to a T5 later on.
I have done most of my winter "list". Detail engine bay. Clean motor. New floors. New seats. New carpet. New door panels. Removed part of the cage. New rear interior section. New front suspension. New radio. Complete wiring harness. (I now have lights, wipers) rustbullet undercarriage Clean clean clean Basically everything but exterior paint. Many many new parts I am sure there are things I have forgotten. Things left to do: Install tranny cooler Hook up shifter cable. Change rear end gear Buy new "street" tires. Thank everyone that has helped with this project. DRIVE IT!!!!
Keep it running and drivable. Disc brakes up front if at all possible. get the alternator issues ironed out. Wash it more.
I'm gonna finish making room for the 460/glide swap. Maybe then I'll start on the minitubs and backhalf. As you can see, It's used as storage until I get the 460/c-4 swap done in my 1980 zephyr.
My plan is to get all of my steel and welding work done on the car which includes floor and cowl work, quarter panel work and rocker panel repairs. Finish up the cage, front frame rails and the Mustang II cradle and maybe even get it back into being a rolling chassis again. Of course, somehow plans keep changing.
Since you said 'car', rather than Mav/Comet, I will give you the generalized long version. I am planning on retiring in Sept. 2010, so I am trying to finish most of the projects, even if it means selling a couple of the cars to do it. I have the dark aqua XR7 in the body shop as we speak, getting work done and painted. Then it is reassembly, rebuild the tranny(been sitting too long), and new top. I would to like to put some closure on this one since my son and I have been off and on working on it since '02. Hopefully, I can get these things done to drive it to Louisville in August. If not, I may drive the gold Stang conv up there. I want to have a topless experience this year. Buy new material to redo the inserts and seats of both the Stang Sprint and the Maverick Sprint from SMS. Get the paint clear coated again on the Stang Sprint. If I sell the white Cougar conv, I may go ahead and do the body work/ paint on the Sprint Maverick. Maybe all 3 of my Sprints will be ready for Silver Springs by next year(year after next for sure). The Pinto Sprint is ready to go this year(not perfect, but ready). The jury is still out on taking the Stang Sprint this year. Just drive the black XR7 htp, needs little, and is a kick to drive. If I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel for the Comet Gt, I may sell it. I would like to finish it, too, if possible. It won't happen this year, though, or probably not even next year. Life is full of tradeoffs and this would free up funds to finish the Sprint Maverick if sold. Too many projects, too little time and money!! Jim
