This may have been asked before but... What caused you to find this forum??? I was looking for subframe connectors. Now I cant imagine dealing with my Mavericks without this place or, the great and knowledgeable people I have spoken with/met here.
I had just got a maverick and was trying to find ways to make them look sharp, when i first got it i thought it was kinda ugly but that was just because the big bumper and ugly rims. Now i think all are sharp.
Needed to learn more about my new project. Things like where to find parts and information. I was led to the site indirectly by the article in HMM, it was the round about way through Maverick Man's site.
I had become interested in finding a another Comet after finding a photo album full of pictures of the one my dad used to have. I typed 71 Comet GT in Google and it was one of the first sites that came up. I didn't know what a Maverick was at the time, but quickly learned, and found they were far easier to find. 5 years, 10 Mavericks, and 117,000 miles behind the wheel of a Maverick later, I've still never owned a Comet.
One time i goggled "shelby maverick" just out of curiosity... then it led me to that infamous thread.... the first two years with my maverick were kinda worthless, i didnt know anything about these a cars. I remember i was trying to buy a Gran Torino gas tank because i though it would fit. Lol. i was also 13 at the time. Then i found this forum when i was 15!
I was looking for an economical car and was checking out VW Karmanghias since I can't stand the new econoboxes. After realizing that my fat butt just does not fit in the little suckers, I started thinking back on cars I had in the past that I did fit comfortably in and remembered my old Grabber Maverick and Comet. I remembered the 6 cylinder in the Comet didn't get too bad of gas mileage, and looked decent too. I started a Google search and came upon this place. Since then I bought my 1st Comet GT (the red one), found a second Comet GT on eBay and purchased it (the Green one), and the gas mileage idea went out the window along with a healthy chunk of my savings account purchasing parts for the harder of these cars to find parts for . If I had it to do over with the knowledge I have now, would I have bought a Maverick instead of the Comet GTs? Probably not, I like the looks of the Comet more than the Maverick and there are less people building them. I tend to go for the road less traveled and usually have more fun doing it. -Scott H.
jayman visted my shop because another shop that he visted told him there was a maverick at my shop. he told me about this board and had helped me get a few parts that i need to to complete my car. thanks jay for leading me to the best fourm on the internet.
I found the old discussion board the very first day I was using a friend's computer for personal use.... my first day on the Internet.... IIRC New Year's Day 1999. Prior to that I had only used computers in a business setting. "Maverick/Comet" was one of my very first searches.
I bought the car in Jan. 2000 and was looking for some parts and help. Googled Maverick, and the board came up. Been here ever since. Met my best friends on the board, and hope to meet many more. Thanks Stefan,
Searched around the net and found it in 2002, just kinda looked around for 3 yrs b4 i even made my first post....
Was looking for a Maverick on the net, typed Maverick in and bam wound up here...no better place to be!
I was thinking of getting a classic car and a guy I was dating at the time suggested I look into Mavericks. So I googled them, admired the back ends (the fronts had to grow on me lol) and looked for information. Most of the posts led back to this rinky-dink little message board, and from there I was hooked. Took a break for a while after I put my 73 Comet into storage (and subsequently sold) but now I'm back and probably going to have 2 cars (my current [new] Mav and a V8 Comet) within a week. Yeah, when I jump into things I jump with both feet!
