hello,im thinking of using a carb spacer for an upgrade but dont know which one to go for.Im running a dual plane rpm performer and a 650 double pump holly,so not sure to use a single plane or a 4 hole one or which one would you guys recomend to up grade?
well just add a spacer to my set up really..since i have my carb sitting on my intake and my air cleaner is slightly touching my dizzy
The four hole one will make your intake still act as a dual plane. A single holed one will make it act as a single plane, sort of. I used a 1" open spacer on that Edelbrock Performer 289 and and liked the improvement enough that I swapped that dual plane for a Torker289 single plane intake. Never looked back on that decision.
Get a four hole phenolic spacer to help isolate the carb from the manifold's heat. What is the rest of your engine's build ?
solid cam and lifters 1.6 rockers,forged pistons 11 to1 comp,stock 65 heads ,shorty headers,electric fuel pump 2800 3000 stall built c4 thats bout it..
That's it? Not too shabby. What cam specs? I am by far no expert, but that engine setup seems like it would benefit from single plane mentality.
the heads are restrictive. the carb is too big. a 4 hole will help the too big carb to respond better at lower rpms. be careful about hood clearance. ive never found enough room with a carb and a spacer for a decent size air cleaner.
When you say "stock 65 heads" have they had any work done to them ? I would still recommend a phenolic 4 hole spacer. Not a fan of double pumpers, but the 650 is on the borderline of being too big for a street motor.(302) As for hood clearance? there are many ways to fit an aircleaner under there (or hood scoop as I did)
I added a nitrous plate, and exceeded my real estate. So I went this route (still in the process of buying the rest). Lost quite a bit of height from this... It wouldn't all fit around the HEI distributor, either.
factory heads with only new valves,as far as the 650 works good doesent show any sighn of it being too big it runs on full msd ignition.
Nope, old brake lines bent to get out of my way while I cut out the shock towers. But braided stainless washer tubes would be cool!
