I know, especially on this website, you all like to joke at what people pay for various and sundry items for our cars (and whole cars) so, I have a question: I know of two Mavericks: One, a 1976 LDO 250 6-cyl. with less than 30,000 miles and every option, 4-door, but, without power brakes on cars.com for $7000.00+. One was a 1977 4-door V-8 that was on E-bay from Seminole Ford in Seminole, OK. They still have that car. It has around 30,000 miles on it, also, for around $7000.00+. They are both in good condition one is white and one is a bronze color. The 1977 has a bench seat and the other has bucket seats, etc. Now, I'm not the brightest bulb on the string, but, I sure wouldn't give what they are asking. So, my question is, "What would these cars be worth?". No, I can't provide links to these cars. Be honest, and thanks for your replies. Craig.
They should be worth $3-$4000 easy, but since they are 4 doors, you never know. All depends on what someone is looking for, and is willing to pay. You have to remember, most people end up with one of these cars because they got it cheap. Would be nice if they were selling for 7 everyday.
...Becasue you don't have them, or don't want anyone to buy them out from under you? I found them both within about three seconds with the info you provided. 1976 LDO 6-cyl: Nice clean car, but with 6-cyl it is not worth the $7250 they are asking. I am suspicious about the grille. Although it is 76 grille, the turn signal lenses/housings are not 1976 (unless LDO's used the cross-haired housings) someone could chime-in and confirm this. I would suspect someone changed them, or a mis-representation of the model year. The first character in the VIN would tell you for sure (5=1975, 6=1976). 1977 V8: If I remember this car from e-Bay, it was parked on a grassy area in front of a dealership. This car is GROSSLY over-priced by any stretch of the imagination. Even a small-bumper V8 Grabber in the same condition would be doing well to hit the $8500 asking price. In Conclusion: I would say that all things equal, I would go with the 1977 V8 car. unfortunately, I wouldn't be prepared to spend much more than $4000, especially for a 4-door. And don't worry, I've owned 4-door Mavericks before, so I'm not just saying this because I'm driving a Grabber now. This is my honest opinion and judgment based on the facts at hand. Good luck with your search.:Handshake
i agree id want to buy1 for the 3500 range, 4000 is about the most you could resale it for, unless as said before you find the right guy...
They are worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for them. I know it sounds simple, and it really is. The white car is EXTREMELY nice, and honestly, I could see the right person paying that for that car, and would be very happy with it. Sure....it would sell all day long for $1500. Probably have 50 people or more lined up to buy it at that price. But, how many people would pay $5000. Maybe 5 out of that 50. Now how many would pay $7250. Maybe only one. That is all it takes to say "that is what it is worth".
Some guy will walk along, see those cars, and go "that is the exact same car I had in high school/got married in/had my first child in/lost my virginity in/etc." and would be willing to pay those prices. But none of us Maverick "experts" would. We have tried to sell better cars for less money.
Actually, it is because I'm not computer savvy like many members and usually when I post something from some other site someone usually asks me to provide a link, which I can't do. ( I guess I could learn!) Most of the time, like you, people can find it within seconds, anyway. . Craig.
I believe the crosshairs on the parking lenses on the 1976 is actually correct. I've seen LDO grilles for sale (I believe on here) that had the same crosshairs as the earlier grilles with the clear parking lenses like the 1975's had. I know that something is worth only what a person is willing to pay, but, gee, I can buy a fairly low mileage Crown Vic '05, '06 for not much more than $8,000.00. While these cars are special to us, they aren't exactly a 1970 Plymouth Superbird. So, this is helpful. I have a 4-door in my signature and I didn't pay anywhere near $7,000.00 for it. The 1976 doesn't have power brakes, either. I posted sometime back and had others look and while it has the bracket, there is no booster. Also, that 1976 was priced about $1,000.00 higher than it is now. As far as your prices, that is about what I thought. Thanks for your reply. Craig.
I understand what you are saying, I just wanted to ask you all because people here don't tend to get as emotionally attached as I am right now. I used to own one like the 1976, but, it wasn't an LDO. Craig.
That is why I asked the "experts". I wanted some "realistic" price. While I don't intend to resell, when a car is priced like these (and this really doesn't apply here as dealerships have these cars) most members usually speculated that the owner overpaid and they expect someone else to overpay. I believe Mr. Selvey spoke of a 1973 Maverick that was on Craig's list for Indianapolis for some outrageous price. Turns out, the car had been run through auto auctions, etc. and the owner thought he could recoup his money. I believe the car was from an estate? I don't see any way the car was worth what he was asking, but, again, it might be what someone is willing to pay. Thanks for your replies. Craig.
