I have owned my car for over 17 years. I bought it when I was just turning 15. I will never sell it. I will die racing it or driving it. I love the car as much as I love anything. I remember being a young man mad at my father because I wanted a 70 Mach I mustang. I hated my car at first. It was booger green with inline six and black vinyl top. Through thick and thin I am still standing and I still ride this bull to war. I was inspired by Maverick Mans 1993 article in Super Ford. I thought damn they can look good after all. My father just shook his head stern as always and said see I told you so....The best memory I have is taking dad for a ride the first time I got the hot lil roller 306 in it. He told me I had hot rodded enough and to slow down. my dad was a drag racer for Ford in the 70's. he campaigned Fairlanes for the most part with wicked 427s or 428scj. In short I thanked him the other day for not doing what I wanted. I would have never had a chance to meet all of you(for good or ill) There have been times my life has seemed so low and not worth living but I always think about my car and this community. In all sincerity from the bottom of my heart, I thank you all. Any way here is a list of good points and bad....

Being a mavericker is not always easy but we are maverick by nature and used to the burden of being a tad different

Owning the best damn looking car period is one of the benefits.

Having people make fun of you because they think Mustangs and Camaros are the best sucks....:bs:

Still being able to buy one for a fair deal and have money left over to do some mods...

Now everybody is starting to jump on the band wagon and prices are going up....

Pulling into a cruise and parking next to a megabuck ride and getting more attention....

Still hearing a few point and laugh( they typically have mullets and no sex life):D

Having your car called the poor mans mustang or worse still in honor of T.L.(newbs will not get it) it being called a Pinto

Having so many people come up and share their maverick stories...

Having the best internet community period:tiphat:
Still arguing with people that Boss 302s were never installed even though they may insist on their grandfathers grave(whom is rolling over in his grave knowing his grandson is a moron)

I will turn it loose from here....
add any moments or advantages/disadvantages as you may...

I've had my car since I was 14, so for over a decade I've owned it. 2 restorations, and a bajillion dollars later, I'm happy, and never will sell it. I'll pass it down i guess.

Case in point - my cars in the paint shop, and a few people came in and asked why in the world someone would put the money into a maverick? he had a mullet. course, I pop the hood, and they drool knowing their 2k dollar camaro with rusted cragars and glasspacks wont hold a candle to my "maverick".....

I love the car, and this forum... everyone is great, even the disagreements.

Built one as a pretty serious street car when I was a teenager. Got no respect and made fun of by our so called car buddies. Finally got it done after 3 years and smoked jsut about every one of them. Especially liked blowwing the doors off our chubby Italian buddy with his 454 Camaro. The first pass we were pretty even. Then I had to burst into laughter when we got back and told him I had started in 2nd gear by mistake and wanted another run. He didnt believe me till We made the next run and I left him in embarassment. Got some respect after that day. Love my little Mav and wouldnt trade it, maybe for a Cobra Jet Torino but thats about it.

I've had my Maverick for going on 5 years. I have to say this is the longest project I've ever dealt with. I've tried to sell the car several times but in the end just couldnt bring myself to do it. Something about this little car just deserves the best I can give it and get it back on the road. I feel sometimes it's like a marriage. It has its ups and downs but you still love it and Im in it for the long haul.

Funny thing is when I was 14 and my Dad and I were looking @ cars for my 1st, something we could work on and fix together...he wanted to get me a Maverick. I said no way...I wanted a 68 Firebird....got a 71 Pontiac Lemans 2dr hardtop. Funny how I ended up with a Maverick after all. Now I love my Maverick and I have never done so much to 1 car. I've never had a project test me so much. But I have learned a great deal and met alot of cool people along the way. The Maverick boards and groups are the best around IMHO.

I think this is the year for my Maverick.

I have been kicking around and idea about a Maverick Stimulus Plan...

I would agree. My first car was a Dodge challenger and I did alot of mods for performance and the dodge guys at the forums hated me, dodge guys only like keeping stuff stock, if its not original they flame you to death. What I like about this site is that you have a little bit of everything here, from stock to wild and for the most part everyone gets along.

Ive had my Maverick for 7 years, started with a primered six banger with the passenger windows busted out. Everybody I hung out with back then had new camaros and mustangs so naturally I got made fun of and left everytime we jumped on the freeway or smashed the gas from a light:mad:.I had faith in my Mavi though thats what made me rebel and invest all my hard earned cash into this thing. 7 years later the car has a nice paint job and runs 12's in the 1/4(soon to be 11's hopefully). Now when I ride with those other guys im gettin all the looks and thumbs up as im SIDEWAYS PAST THERE ASSES FROM THE LIGHT and going 45mph on the freeway waitin for them to catch up.:rofl2::tiphat::rofl2: MAVERICKS TIL I DIE

Couldn't have said it better myself.

This month is the 4 year anniversary of owning my car. I looked for a solid one for 7 years, but patience paid off. Even though times are tough right now, and it mostly sits in the garage waiting for me to work on it, I'll never get rid of it.

When I was 5 or 6 the neighbor across the street drove Mavericks and Pintos. I still remember the orange small bumper 2-door he had that got me hooked on these cars at a very young age.

I like these cars because they're good looking, easy to work on/modify, and are scarcely seen (especially in my area). Life would've been much easier if I'd found this forum years ago. You guys are great.

dont feel bad, i got my '73 4dr when i was 15 as well. was left to my by my grandfather after he passed in 2000 (God rest his soul). at first it was "ok" by my standard but the more i drove it and got to understand these cars, the more i liked it. it was different yet simple all in the same bundle. fortunately it's a factory 302 car and i never had to worry about being tempted to put anything else under the hood.

the car and i both have gone thru thick and thin, but both of us still stand together and side by side. i wouldnt sell it would love, blood nor money..... ill be buried in it. and thanks to family and friends (this community INCLUDED), i have also built and had several of them. i share Lance's feelings when i say 'Thank You' for this community and every person in it :Handshake
