hi everyone,i might of found an auto tranny, but not sure what it is.my wifes uncle has an 84-85 (not sure on the year)mercury marquis station wagon(make one hell of a boat anchor)with a 302.is it possible that the tranny behind it is a c-4 or a c-6?i've heard that both trannys came in that model of wagon, and then i've heard that the c-6 came only in vans and trucks.anyone know for sure?the engine combo is orig.also if it is a c-4 would it be a good tranny to put in the maverick?or would i have to find a different flex plate, torque converter?the motor in the mav is a 73 302 out of a torino.thanks for any help and/or ideas.chuck.

from what i understand the c4 was used until 1981, then it was replaced by the c5, so the tranny would probably not be a c4. i don't think a lot of 302's had the c6. some did, but i don't know about the marquis.:) you can go to http://www.mustangcentral.net/tech/c4.html to read up on the c4.

don, thanks for the link, lot of good info.are the c-5's fairly sturdy,or just not worth it.only problem i could see would be an ecectrical connection for the lockup system.
