What is the best way to get out of a wheel stand if you do not have wheelie bars?

I used the brakes while keeping the throttle pinned wide open. Little brake pressure goes a long way. You definitely don't want to just let off the throttle because most of the time you'll be rewarded with smashed headers, oil pan, trans pan, etc. One guy I know lifted while all 4 wheels were off the ground and pushed the front struts up through the strut towers (fox mustang), took out the hood, warped the body so that the door wouldn't open, oil pan, headers, trans pan, rear bumper cover, miscellaneous front end parts, etc. I remember watching that in person and thinking "ewwwww" when it came down.

Kind of like a wheelie on a motorcycle or ATV. The brakes are the best way to get it out of trouble with minimal damage.

Shift dont lift...If mine comes up I shift into second gear..Short shfting it will lower the power and let it come down while still accelerating..It takes some getting used to..LOL

Not trying to be a wise-a**, but are you talking about your car?

I saw in your first post where you have 365FWHP. That's arguably 300RWHP through your C4.

Unless you're leaving on the Transbrake at WFO and have a 5000+ stall converter, along with a super tall gear and 10.5W slicks, and a 200 shot of Nitrous, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

It's never happened to me, but I swear that if it did, I would TRY to do like 1badmav says, "shift-don't lift". Of course one never knows how they will react until it actually happens.

Good luck and please post some pics of your car up in the air

(p.s. we 'had' a member who complained that he couldn't keep the front wheels on the ground - ....when launching on the street. )

I'd be looking foward to that problem, mine feels like it wants to pop the front, and I know the suspension completely relaxes, but I'm a long way from lifting the nose

i've lifted the front end but i really don't think of 1 or 2 inches as a wheelie.:yahoo:

I consider air under both tires being a wheelie...I hope there is a picture first time mine does that. I don't really want to come up too much more than that, just some air under the wheels, maybe 3-4 inches max. That way, i can say "yup! My car does wheelies!" but I don't have to fix shocks, shock towers, oilpans, headers, etc each time I do it.

I've done a couple of "wheelies" then. :D

I considered it, "lifting both front tires for a little ways". :tiphat:

The board member, "Lentech" (who owns that yellow Maverick with the picture of him dragging his bumper and has all four wheels off the ground)does "wheelies". :yup:

I toned mine down so it leaves pretty flat. Bracket racing & wheelstands aren't good for each other. It was fun though...footbraking it and dangling the wheels a good 36" or so (and that's being conservative...never saw any pics) and carrying it about 50'. Fun, just not very consistent. Now it's a max of 6-8" and carrying them 10-15'. If I moved the top bars on the 4 link down one hole and the bottom bars up one hole (all in the front brackets) than it would wheelstand just like it was before...maybe even more due to a little more power. Never been on the bumper, but a couple times it felt a little like a bike going over center...I could feel it wanting to go up further, I just hit the brakes while still on the throttle and it powered out of it.
