Hey there. I have a 76 Maverick with 302 and C4. I plan on buying some new wheels and tires in the near future. I was talking to my dad about them and he said that i couldnt get a large wheel on the rear for the fact that it will mess up my speedometer. If i convince him to let me get the wheels i want 17 inch by 10 how would i adjust the speedometer, or do i have to take it to a shop.
Get yourself a December 2005 copy of Mustang and Fords Magazine. There is a great tech article in there that explains how to calculate the correct speedometer gear for the tire size and rear your running. It also includes the part#s. The gears are available from Ford and only run about $8.
Could you tell me what exactly is Back Spacing. I though it was the space from the spokes to the inside of the rim. Thanks
to measure backspacing you take one of your old rims off and you measure from were the studs go into to the top of the backside of the rim, i think you can get 4 1/2 on these mavs
4 1/2 will rub on most cars depending on how straight your sidewall is. I havent found one that wouldn't yet but some have said they had no problems. 4 1/4" max bs would be a safer bet.
ok. i also have some airshox on the rear, i got them hoping to get a better visual from the rear. and it worked. all i need are some nice sized wheels. Does anybody have any recomendations. I ask this cause i think my car looks a little goofy from behing with a wide body and narrow wheel base.
tires are like peoples shoes everyone has different tastes take a look at the gallery and see if you find some you like, when i get squared off i think i'm goonaa go with 245 in the rear
10's are to wide.. unless you love that tire sticking out the fender look go with a x9 at the most! that will keep it boxed off to the fender. also with a 4 inch bs you'll be happier. forget the spacers IMO thats mickey mouse! but do what you want.. what do i know. also most true 17 inch faced and larger rims don't come with a 4-1/4 BS anyways. note you can go as wide as 285 with a 35 series. but have fun paying the cost on the tires! IMO too.... dump the air shocks. look forward to seeing what it looks like!
Hey i like the boxed off thing, that sounds great, i want a Fat tire on the rear, what size would be good. a 9in by 15 that would be good i think. Not a whole lot of rim, but enough. somthing modest like some asens, AMR, Cragers, Hali ext. And i love my airshocks, my dad wont let me slam the front, so i opt for these, plus they were reasonably priced. but they dont raise the end to a rediculis level, they could but i have them tuned perfect
I (In) M (my) O (opinion) i'm confuse? are you going 15s or 17's? usually for tire size its width first height second and diameter third. for example 285/35-18 just a note to you if your not going to lower the car it will look funny with anything bigger then a 15 inch wheel.. why won't your dad let you lower the car? this will help too http://www.maverickman.com/TireandWheelSizes.html again these are only my opinions but i know they will work don't get me started about ricers.. i own one!
IMO=In My Opinion Im guessing this is what you were asking. Here is my setup, and I only have 14x6 inch rims, with just big tires! I think its looks good, but like it was said before, its all in your own opinion! So, these are US Black Modular Wheels 14 x 6 and they were $167.80 for the 4 of them from Summit Racing (Part # USW-94-4612) Then i have BF Goodrich 245 60 R 14 I like how they look, how the rear tire looks like its almost bulging off of the wheel!
Haha, yes he does...Well i dont know if he does, he didnt take the cover off of it at all... Maybe he didnt want the ricer to feel embarassed with 2 BEAUTIFUL mavs int he garage and one beautiful mav outside! Haha, im just giving you a hard time derrick!
The problem wit air shocks is you are now using the upper shock mount as a load bearing structure. In other words, it will carry some of the car weight. This is something it was not designed to do. The more air you run in your shocks, the more stress you put on the mount. Keep a good eye out for stress cracks.
It's okay to have a ricer...I have a ricer project going on too. I also think a 9 will get the look you want.
