will a 15x8 wheel with 4.5 backspacing fit on the rear of a comet without rubbing the wheel well the tire i plan on useing will be a 245/60/15 what you guys think
I have 245's on my rear wheels without spacers and no rubbing. Maybe the fact that they are 14'' wheels might make a difference as 15'' may still rub. Dunno.
I ran 245/60r15 on 8X15 with 4-1/4 BS, and had no problems. I am now running 255 with no problems on the spring side, but rub on the fender side on hard launches. I think you should be OK with that extra 1/4" BS.
I tried that set up on a 77 I used to have and the tire just touched the leaf spring. You could easily make a 1/4 spacer to put behind the wheel or go with 4.25 back spacing.
Depending on how bad your leafs have sagged you can possibly get some rubbing on the inside and outside of the wheel well.
I'm gonna run a 275/60/15 w/4.5bs (I Hope) but I already know for sure I Have to use a 1/4" spacer.. When I put the wheel on with that little spacer it made a big difference...
Up here Ron the Daydreamer (green Maverick behind my Comet) has 275's -15" with no spacers and they fit. Larry Winter on the other hand has 275's - 15'' and he has spacers so i'm thinking it depends on the car's leaf springs more than anything. Now some of this info could be wrong since this is from memory but as far as i remember they both have the same size rear tire.
