They are measured in inches here. Take a string and put it around where the belt goes. Take it to the parts store. When you put it, on the alternator should be adjustble. Make sure when you measure it you still have quite a bit of adjustment left.
I went to the O'Reillys looking for an alternator belt as well yesterday and they asked me if I had a 65 amp or 70 amp alternator (or maybe they asked 60 amp or 65 amp it was one of the two) I didn't know what the output was for my alternator so I didn't buy it..Can anyone tell me which is the right belt for my 73 302?
I don't know of a difference between the alts. as far as a belt goes. just pick one and try it...then go bigger/smaller from there.
look it up on rockauto.com. depending on whether you have air conditioning and/or power steering there are different lengths. without ac, length should be roughly 35". with ac, it's about 45". the power steering belt should be 41 5/8"
I just bought belts today at Advance and the power steering belt is a 51017 and the alternator belt is a 39515. Any parts house should be able to cross reference the part numbers. Good luck!
