seriously? with a 30years old car do people REALLY believe it's the original miles? i mean, rare are the adds on ebay or craigslist that don't claim "original miles". do they really believe what they are saying?:16suspect sorry... i guess i'm in a bad mood tonight
Only time original miles matter in my opinion is if the car is a very nice unrestored original car. If the car is rough and needs a lot of work, it makes no difference if the car has 10 miles on it or 1,000,000...
agree, when i think about an old car the mileage is my least concern... i just don't understand why people brag about it since there is no way to check that
Well documented cars with service and oil change reciepts can substantiate mileage claims. And I do believe a good condition car with low miles is worth more than a good condition car with high miles.
Possibly, if you have the documentation to prove it, and it's an all original car. I would imagine the majority of cars that are restored have the odometers set back. My dad's Comet showed only 6,000 miles and change on it when he sold it. The car actually had in excess of 350,000. Funny thing is, I know that the car is currently in Florida. If you go to Florida's VIN checking site and punch in the VIN on his old Comet 1K31F566043, it states 7,765 ACTUAL MILES.
I'll think about it when I win the lottery. I've tried to email him, but never got a response. Hard to believe someone with a Comet like that isn't on this site.
When i got my Comet in '93 it had 19,993 miles on it but because it was a plain jane run of the mill 1976 Comet it really did not make much of a difference in value. My Comet now only has 59,563 miles but i don't think it would make much of a difference in the value in the end. It is nice though that i am the only one to put the miles on it and it has not turned over yet. The cars still not worth to much, it may be different if you were to own a Stallion or a Grabber, that's my guess.
Mine has 160,000 original miles and the reason why I mention that is because I put 90,000 of them on it myself. ....
mine shows a little over 60,000 but i'm sure it's been turned over a few times. I agree with Jamie unless a car is in perfect shape mileage isn't much of a concern. I'd rather have a car with a good body and high mileage than a low mileage car in crappy shape
It doesn't raise the value any but I think it is nice to know a little more about the car such as original miles on it. Lets me know a little more about the condition of parts like the rear gear and what shape the engine might actually be in without tearing it down. The 72 I just bought has around 70k on it and I know this because the old couple I bought it from told me. Do I believe them? Sure. She bought it new to drive back and forth to work right down the road as a school teacher. Everything I see about the car confirms this as well. Does it raise the price of the car? No but it raises it's value to me just a little. clint
Mine was owned by a little old lady, just like the saying, her husband bought it in 1975. After he died it became her once a week A&P driver. Then i came around, $200 later plus 15 odd years and well the rest is history. Low miles and the rest put on only by me, so for me the real value of my 'ol Comet is the miles i know about and the miles that i put on.
As a collector & restorer the cars are only original once now just think about that for a moment. I have restored cars to better than new and they never have the feel of an original low mileage car. Top restorers will all agree with this you can never duplicate the feeling of an original car. I Have just purchased a 40,000 mile original grabber I can tell you that it drives like a new maverick would when new. It's hard to describe in words but once they are taken apart and restored that originality is lost for EVER!!!!!
I have 3 cars with less than 30k, and the lowest k cars is the worst shape;sad but true. She only has 24k on it but sat in an open end, dirt floor shed.A 72 mav sat from 76 till 06.Moisture is a killer. One day I WILL figure out how to post pics, I hope!
