I've got a 71 Comet 250 6cyl with a c-4 automatic. I wanted to swap a 302 into the car, but was wondering if I can use the same c-4 on the 302? I was told there a different c-4 for the 6 cyl. The bolt pattern for the bellhousing looks the same, so why won't it work? Any help would be great.

the six cylinder c-4 should work. i believe it's just not as beefy as the one for the v-8. when i look for a c-4 for my cars i don't care weather it came from a 6 or an 8. i just care about the year as they changed from a 24 spline shaft to a 26 spline shaft in 70. that affects which torque convertor you use:) .

Thank you. I was thinking the same thing, but my cousin swore otherwise.

The 6 trans has 1 less set of clutches than the v8's or so my trans guy tells me.

you also have to have a 50 oz flex plate instead (depending on year of 302) the one from a 6 cyclinder has 0 oz
