hello all. I am getting ready to remove my windshield to reseal it. it's starting to get some small leaks. if I'm correct to remove it you just cut into the seal between the weatherstrip and windshield. is that weatherstrip something that needs replaced when the windshield is removed or would resealing it with silicon work? I'd like to avoid spending the 80- bucks for a new winshield gasket if possible.

Chances are your going to need to replace the gasket anyway if you try to remove the windshield. It will probably start cracking when you try to stretch it. Besides its very difficult to get the windshield out without breaking it. The gasket costs a lot less than the windshield so sacrifice the gasket.

Ok here we go. Get an exacto knife, then push it into the gasket in the middle of the outer surface.
It should go down close to an inch. This mean your cutting the gasket that is covering the windshield.
Cut all of the gasket over the windshield out. Then pull what you cut off.
Ok here comes what I was stupid about. The windshield is probably a little stuck to the gasket just because it was on there about thirty years. so get soapy water and soak where the windshield touches the gasket until it goes into the crack.
then go inside and very carefully, push it until it "pops" a little.
Then go on the outside and lift it out VERY CAREFULLY.
This may not be the way to save the gasket but you will get the windshield out without breaking it.

There might also be some "tricks or tools of the trade", but I know this will work.

:( i had my windsheild out to replace the gasket and my son pulled my new truck (first day) in the garage and ran over it. i ordered a new one today and she said it would be in tomorrow morning at 8:00. it was $166 bucks. as far as the gasket goes it will be a good investment to buy a new one. i am also replacing the headliner at the same time. good luck and take your time...frank...
