Well the mav is once again leaking. Fortunately it's leaking in only one place, right above the steering wheel! The guy that did the front gasket has pressured sealed the darn thing three times and although it fixed the other leak this one is sure persistent. I am now thinking that I might have to replace the windshield, it's the original and perhaps it's to thin at the spot it's leaking from and it can't seal properly. Has anyone had to replace theirs? If so what did it run you? Can any other model Ford's be used in replacement? Thanks.

Jerilyn; had to replace mine when I got the car, broken. I bought new gaskets, front and rear. The new glass is thinner than the original, and the gaskets are still the same...makes it interesting. Had to have mine pressure sealed two or three times, but finally got it sealed. Take it back, and let him try again. He should be able to seal it. Pressure sealing is about the best way. Good luck!!!!!

    windsheild

    Jeri,
'69-'70 Mustang coupe winsheilds are the same as the Maverick. I had the same leak problem with a new winsheild and NOS gasket. The windsheild was much thinner than the original. On the next car I used another NOS gasket but a used original windsheild from a 69 Mustang coupe, no leak!

Really? I never heard this before. I wonder when you order one if they have the same part #. I heard Maverick windshields are getting harder to find so I had my buddy, who owns his own glass business, see if he could find me more Maverick windshields. His source only found 2 so I bought them. I think I will check with him to see if they have separate listings for the Mustang. I would think they would be easy to come by.

I haven't had any problems ordering windshields here for Mavs. It would be interesting to know for sure if the Mustang windshield is eactly the same.

Both the Maverick and the 69-70 Mustang coupe NAGS # 797.

My interchange manual shows different part numbers for 70 - 71 Mavericks, 72 - up Mavericks, and neither is the same for any year Mustang. In fact, 69 and 70 Mustangs list different numbers.

    Leaking windshield???

I recall seeing a post somewhere about there being a drainage spot below the Mavs windshields that would rust out and allow water to run into the passenger compartment. The Mavs had a built-up ridge around one point on each side of the car that would accumulate dirt and debris, then rust the ridge out, thereby allowing water to run in under the dash. The leak would often be noticed after a windshield replacement. Maybe I'm way off here, but  ...

    t.mav,
that is a good point. i see a lot of mav./comets in the bone yard that have duct tape around the windshield thinking the seal is leaking.
she said "above the steering wheel". i read this as being at the top of the windshield.
there are two grooves to be sealed.one is the seal to the body and the other is the glass to the seal. the seal to the body has the headliner under it also. maybe it has been pinched and causing the leak...frank...
