I wanted to say hi to my fellow maverick enthusist. I am working on my maverick as long as the michigan weather holds out. Right now i am converting my front breaks from drums to disc. Finding parts around here is difficult so i have learned to make do. I am useing spindles from a 72 torino the are real close to identical the bottom ball joint was different diameter so my uncle did some machine work for me and made a tapered bushing to reduce the size of the hole. He also had to shave a 1/4 inch off the same area cause it was thicker. My maverick has a 8" rear axle for now i am upgrading the rear brakes from 9" to 10" and i had the axles redrilled to take the 5 bolt wheels. i had a 9" axle but it ended up being for a fairlane or pre 70"s torino. The motor i am putting in it is in my 77 tbird now. It was rebuilt last year 351W from 69 i decked the block .020 extra plus the factory extra so that mean .040 lower that newer blocks. Brought the pistons up out of the hole .010 for good quench. I used a set of older 302 heads drilled the bolt holes and ported them. the thunderbird runs low 13's with a 325 gear fmx auto trans and weighing an astonishing 4200 lbs without me in it. I am looking for some v8 frame mounts for a maverick if there is any out there let me know! I will keep posting as long as i get replies. After all who wants to place post for no one to read.. have a good one!

    :Welcome: from Northeast Pennsylvania

I don't remember the spindles from my 72 Gran Torino looking anything like the ones on my Maverick.

Now 71 Torinos might be close because they still had the springs up in the towers. Do you have pictures of the 72 spindles?

thank you all for welcoming me to the forum. I am ready to blast and paint my torino spindles for install. The weather in michigan weather has turned to bitter cold and my garage is attatched to my house. I have small children so i dont want to exspose my family to paint fumes so i will continue rounding up more parts and cleaning them so when i can paint they are ready.
