I came across this on the web on some strange site. Some "artist" trashed this Maverick as performance art. I would assume he was the one who painted it in the first place. It was called "autobang"

    From here:

"The use of everyday objects is recurrent feature of your performances and I am wondering if you select these objects for their symbolic values, or simply for their specific sound qualtities? I'm thinking in particular of Autobang, the performance realized in 2002 for the 25th São Paulo Bienal in which you destroyed a Maverick 74. Was the choice of this model of car significant?"

"In most cases we choose particular objects for the sounds that they produce. The original idea for Autobang was to use the structure of a car as a percussion instrument. We believe that cars, like electric guitars, have a unique power to produce latent desires, including an implicit sexual appeal, and that's why we had to use a sports car for Autobang. We could easily have used a red Ferrari but because we needed to work within a budget we chose the Maverick. During the process of developing the work we were very tempted to give up and keep the car for ourselves, but then we decided that it was imperative that we completely destroyed the car, because destroying something we loved would further affirm the action. In other words, Autobang is a work about macho love."

What a massive crew of DICKS i mean really. Use a newish car or something or a bone yard wreck. I'm on the Brazilian Maverick website all the time (Manualdo Maverick) and believe me the guys on that board completely LOVE Mavericks and would most likely kick the crap out of those fools that wrecked that car. Hell i would like to visit each one of those morons at home with a lead pipe so i could trash their houses all in the name of "MUSIC OR PERCUSSION", .... a complete crew of idiots!

This is like saying, "We believe that puppies are fluffy and nice, and have a unique power to produce joy and laughter, and that's why we had to grind up an especially cute one for your entertainment."

My grandmother can paint amazing oil paintings and china. I call this art. My Aunt has inherited the oil painting and also does very impressive work. I call this art. I have an Uncle is a singer/songwriter. I call this art. Another Uncle can build absolutely anything from wood. I call this art. My Grandfather and father can write amazing poetry. I call this art.
BUT....I've never understood how thowing paint at a canvas is art (as anyone can do it). I also do not understand how destruction is art. This is just another thing that I don't understand about what some people call "art".

@ssholes like these always seem to find the most solid, rust free, and complete examples out there, and usually only pay about 59 cents for them. Then proceed to destroy it, usually for nothing more than their own amusement, or retarded crap like this. Meanwhile the rest of us spend years searching for one, only to spend $1000 or more for a rusted up, worn out, junker and start from there.

You know, this concept is kind growing on me after watching that. I am thinking of doing my own "performance art" display. I wonder how many beautiful sounds the human body can make while under such abuse. Hmm, now where can I find those bastards?
