Just thought I would share some info on the carb on my mav http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=4373673 http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=3223433 http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=3150422 http://www.holley.com/types/4150%20HP%20Series.asp http://www.holley.com/0-80541-1.asp The model I bought is not the silver finished nascar carb (the biggest difference is the color and the boosters in the venturis compare mine to the holley catalog) Approx Cost new was 580 dollars at CSK (checker schucks kragen) same carb from summit was 630 jegs was 640. It has a few features I found worthwhile and worthy of purchase: 1 It has a 4 corner idle and drilled throttle plates from the factory 2 It has a 850 baseplate thats been heavily reworked (the throttle blades are thin and they are welded to the shafts and they are contoured) 3 Adjustable air bleeds for fine tuning 4 As with number 2 the large throttle plates mean I can upgrade to a 750 main body and step up airflow for a reasonable amount of cash 5 It looks Terrific when you have the air cleaner off and the burger shop boys get a gander.. >;0 Couple of things I would like in the future added to it: 1 Billet jet blocks (turning it into a ultra clone) 2 Adjustable idle jets (fine tuning for street driving) 3 Adjustable power valve circuits (lean out the driving jets and use the power valve correctly subject for a article on carb tuning) 4 Adjustable intermediate circuit for daily driving It is a "race" carb but it's also easily adjustable and modifiable I also have a full set of jets/air bleeds/accelerator pump parts etc to fine tune this as much as I can (given the limitations of the idle and intermediate and power valve circuits) Couple of Tweaks I have added so far: 1 Added a adjustable secondary idle stop (look at the passenger side picture it's the screw behind the regulator) I can adjust the secondary idle from the top with this unlike typical holleys (stock holley you have to pull the carb and flip it over to set the secondary idle or like I did before I bought this carb flip the screw around and set it from the top)(moroso and holley sell them) 2 I took out the secondary power valve and ran 8 jets richer then stock to compensate and have jet extentions (drag racer thing power valves are not reccomended) 3 Added BG float adjuster screws(normal nut but a big philips screw instead of a flat makes adjusting the float much easier) 4 BG Idle screws adjust those with your finglers As for the Fuel System 1 Mallory regulator from a 140 pump kit 2 Pushlock hose -6 in size 5 or 6 feet total(it's nhra legal without clamps or A/N fittings I might change it over to the stainless wrapped stuff but thats another 100 bucks or more in fittings and line..) 3 Pushlock and A/N fittings 4 Carter hi perf stock pressure fuel pump ( I have the mallory 140 electric pump waiting to get mounted as a spring project) 5 Edelbrock baseplate for it's Holley regulator kit redrilled to fit the mallory regulator. 6 Auto Meter fuel pressure gauge inside the car with isolator (nhra rules) 7 The Fuel filter is a Performance Products 10nm 500gph filter I have the -8 fitting for when I build the new fuel system filter is replacable or cleanable (have to look) 8 Stock gastank and pickup assembly (I'm deciding on a sump or a rebuild on the pickup system.. to all 1/2 inch or -10 in the sump or a cell in the trunk) Just thought I would show you one of my toys..
ooooo i wanted play one uppie:evilsmile im goin to take a pic of my carb its shiny:evilsmile and a holley hold on i shall return good price on that Holley from CSK
yours is a 850 on the 351w block I bet you have the billet jet blocks I want (about 60-90 each) I want one for each end but I need a vacuum port in the front like yours the msd distributor is a street unit I special ordered with vacuum advance
mine is a 750 but prolly flows around 850:evilsmile yup billet metering blocks my msd doesnt have vacume advance its just mech pro billet
I know I was a little bummed then perked up at the thought of buying billet plates and getting lost in esoteric tuning changes for the sake of wasting fuel and ripping gaskets >
I suppose I could snag the plate off the 750 or the 600dp for now to make the vacuum advance work till I get the billet plates
Mine's pretty too, but I don't think I have any pictures of it. Besides, if I posted any, I would probably catch the same sort of flack as John (pinky) It's purple doggone it!
