    Hi!

I stumbled across this site while looking for info on the Maverick. My first car was a '76 Maverick, and had I been able to afford the engine rebuild when it was needed, I may even still have it.

I sold my Maverick back in '92 (or was it '93, I can't remember) and now I'm thinking of picking up another one. I can't decide if I want a '76 like my old one, or a '73 since I was born in '73...

I hope to get some good info from y'all while I hunt around for another Maverick, and after I've gotten it.

    welcome

i have a '76 but i would have rather had an earlier model with the small bumpers. thats why i swapped mine. later modls do have the advantage of being 5 lug disc brake cars

Okay, now that just made my brain hurt...I would prefer the small bumpers, but I also would rather have the 5 lug disc brakes.

Were the disc brakes an option? I seem to remember my '76 having drum brakes.

I'm northeast of Houston (Atascocita, for those from or familiar with the area). Here's where it gets funny...my name is Eddie, so I guess I answered the question in your sig as well.

the rear brakes were all drum but the front were disc. all v8 cars were 5 lug but 71-73 5 lug cars were 4 wheel drums. front discs bcame standard in 74 but so did the big bumpers.

the basic maverick shell is that same across all years so i'd just look for one in the best condition. brakes and bumprs and verything else can be swappd around alot easier and cheaper then body work on a rusty '76 just because you had your heart set on a '76 over a cleaner car of a diffrent model year.

See, I knew I would wind up with good info here...sounds like now the search will probably be for any Maverick as long as the body & frame are good.

First, gotta convince the wife to let me get one. I'll probably have to buy her a car first.

Hmm...wonder if I can convince her to go for a Maverick.

    Fresh out of Mavericks
    Atascocita???

Me and my wife are from Dayton, and now live in Angleton. Glad to have you on here. Feel free to ask us for any help as we go that way several times per year(y)

It sure is good to land another Houston-area member!

For those not "in the know" Atascocita is just two towns over from this little burg called Dayton, on highway 90 in SE TX. In fact, most of us from Dayton had to drive to Atascocita to get any wine or booze...Still do:16suspect
