I've got a GSX Eclipse that will shift at 6500 rpm just leaving it in drive. I personnally think it shifts about 1000rpm too high, but in any case it's still pretty quick. Right now it'll run with 5.0's and Z28's in the quarter, but not off the line! The car has a smaller turbo so it winds out quicker, but I still get smoked off the line by V8 cars. I eventually catch most, but only after a long distance. It's almost not practical to drive at city speeds because the turbo is constantly trying to wind out, but it's unable to because of the low speeds. I've never had that problem with a V8. The power has always been there. As for the 500+ HP Porsche, I kind of doubt it unless he's got twin turbos and nitrous. Don't get me wrong though, it still could be quick as heck. I've researched a lot on making the little turbo cars go fast and the ones I have seen go fast do it at a whole lot less HP than 500. The cars are so light that they don't take much to make them quick, but no matter what you do to them, they all seem to hit a brick wall at 10's in the quarter. Out of all the national and international "rice-burner" races I've seen i don't think I've seen many 9's. Anyway, after rambling on, having both turbo and V8 powered autos, I think I'll stick with the stump-puller V8's.
: my mini stock pinto has a '73 2000 cc and i constantly turn it about 6400 and it has 120,000 miles on it. another guy in my class of racing has a fresh 2.3l that he turns 6800-6900 every saturday nite. if you build a FORD 4 banger right it will last forever and you can get a lot of ponies out of them.
